Amphibia, 03 Feb 2023Real life case - you go on vacation in exotic location, of ... moreIn your scenario, if the phone gets damaged from seawater then the SD card could have issue too. I would say that you need to actually be prepared while on vacation. Since I got my first digital camera in 2000, and then much later started using my cell phones for pictures and videos, I have always been prepared when on vacation. Either with something to properly protect the devices from water etc.. Or using other devices that were designed to be used and submerged underwater.
If someone's phone is so important to them and the content is also very important, then they should have the common sense to also protect their devices properly. It isn't very difficult.

Bistna, 03 Feb 20235 reasons Why external Storage is important:
1- SECURITY -... more1. I've been using cloud storage for many years. I've never run into any issues from MS, Google, or Amazon. Worst case, I could upload over the internet to storage at home. Since I have over three hundred terabytes of total storage available in my home LAN.
2. Speed is no big deal. I only upload over wifi. And if it's that important, I would keep a local copy on my phone.
3. You can use a portable, external hard drive, with the cell phone. Which can be many times faster for reading and writing than an SD card will be.
If you are a professional, you will have backup devices. If you are a supposed profession taking pictures and videos and you don't have backup devices, then I don't know. I would call that stupidity.
4. Sure Accidents can happen. But for me, in my twenty nine years of using cell phones, I can count on two hands the number of times I've dropped my cell phone. And I have yet to break a cell phone. Although in 2000, I had my cell phone stolen when I was in Philadelphia for work.
5. I'm not worried about a bunch of pictures or data on my cell phone. First, if it's that important I would already have them backed up. And then I would either get a brand new phone first, or I would wipe the phone before going to the repair shop.
Samsung sells wireless battery chargers. I have a couple that can charge both wired and wirelessly. If you are a professional or even an amateur or on vacation, a responsible person would make sure they have the proper things so they can charge their phone and devices. If they need to. I have my portable chargers, but I can count on one finger the number of times I've actually really needed to use it. But then that is why I have it, for an emergency
I also sure as heck do not want to go back to user replaceable batteries either. That will just make the phone more bulky again.

Guys, I'll let you in on a secret.
Wanna know why no modern flagship has SD card slot? SD cards are way too slow.
High speed SD cards exist, but it's way too easy to stick some old 32GB card you had laying around, put on a bunch of photos on it, and make the phone feel sluggish trying to load the pictures from a slow SD card. It's even worse with apps.
That sort of experience would be acceptable on $300 mid-range phone, hence why those phones still have SD card slots. On a $1000 flagship, it's simply unacceptable, hence why no manufacturers include them anymore.

Which includes 1TB of cloud storage. Worst case, I could just store it at home if I wanted to. And remotely backup everything new, on my cell phone, while away from home. Instead f using cloud storage.

aaronwt, 02 Feb 2023????That is one of the best things about the Galaxy S phone... moreIt's clear you don't have much experience.
Under screen FP sensors are the biggest and most useless phone gimmick to happen in the last 4 years. I hate them. They are slow, placement is unnatural feeling, and very inaccurate.

Amphibia, 03 Feb 2023Real life case - you go on vacation in exotic location, of ... moreYou can still recover data from a dead phone with no sd card, but it requires a very speciallized technician with the proper tools. That is why I choose a lower end phones for my mom since she tends to be clumsy and drop it very often. I myself don't rely on that since I take care of my phone as it was a katana, but still like having an SD card. Samsung hasn't done a phone as good as the S10 ceramic, they should launch a version of their high end phones with an audio jack and sd card.

Bistna, 03 Feb 20235 reasons Why external Storage is important: 1- SECURITY -... moreReal life case - you go on vacation in exotic location, of course you limit your roaming data unless you want to run a bill higher than your phone cost. You go kayaking or something, phone gets seawater, gets damaged. If you had SD card - your photos are safe, SD cards are very durable and I read stories about photos recovered after months/years in water; now phone - another story, you won't recover anything. This happened to me in Malta years ago with S4 Active, supposedly waterproof phone. There was a slight crack, water got in, phone got damaged. For data recovery, was suggested to find and buy identical phone, then the shop would try to solder storage chip, of course no guarantee of success, and this is expensive just to try, so all travel photos were lost except those on SD card.

aaronwt, 01 Feb 2023??? Why would they have an SD card slot. 2020 was the last ... more5 reasons Why external Storage is important:
1- SECURITY - You can't trust the cloud. Google already suspended accounts because some people uploaded their own nudes. Ai can put a red flag and suspend your account. That means no privacy. Not to mention Data leak of personal files.
2- SPEED - They can say 5G is fast, but if you use your phone for video, for example, the files can be very big and it takes time to upload. Then you are in an area with bad reception or your battery dies and you need the files. What do you do?
3- PROFESSIONAL PHOTO/VIDEO - If you want to make tons of pictures and videos you'll need a lot of storage. A phone with 128GB is useless for that.
4- ACCIDENTS - We don't want to break the phone, but imagine that you make a lot of great videos in a place with bad reception, your data didn't have enough time to upload to the cloud and Bammm...your phone breaks. You can't access your images right away and that lead us to a nightmare that is:
5- DATA LEAK - Your phone is damaged with a lot of pictures or videos that you don't want others to see. You know what I mean. Now you have to trust some random technician to fix your phone and hope that this person do not leak your data.
Solution: Now they sell some Pen drives that you can plug in your USB-C to download the pictures. It works, but again, if your battery is dead or if your phone is damaged, you can't back up your data.
Yes, samsung, there are so many things you can do to trash iphone. Bring external storage back. Terminate this stupid curved screen and think about a removal battery. At least put a battery in a position that is very easy to replace. People will love you more than apple.

AnonD-1061076, 03 Feb 2023Indeed, expanding your storage is very important if you wan... moreNobody talks about the missing SD-Slot in the new flagships! Samsung wants to copy Apple in anyway. No expandable Memory means the can sell you more of their internal memory - Every Time you buy a new Phone! They buy every gb for 8 cents and charge you a fortune. No tought about the enviroment. They sell less and less of their phones since cancelling the SD-Slot. My current Phone is a Samsung S20 FE 5G - The last REAL Fan-Edition. My next Phone will no longer be a Samsung. Sorry Samsung - As long as you do not bring back the SD Slot in the Flagship-Phones you already lost a Samsung-Fan and more will follow.....
