Here I am, 1 year later and decided to give samsung another chance. I got a good trade-in offer to upgrade the S22U to S23U, so I went ahead with it. What a pleasant surprise it was! All the issues of the S22U I mentioned earlier was addressed. Finally, I get to see battery life worthy of a flagship. The audio quality sounded less tinny as well. For aspects that were already perfect, such as the display, no need to upgrade, because if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Thank you Samsung, for listening to your customers, faith restored. I will keep this phone for a long time to come. Cheers!

aaronwt, 09 Mar 2023Then why use 4k UHD instead of 2k HD? It takes up more space too.why use 2k hd instead of 480p? it would save a lot more storage

Just shifted from the S22U to the S23U today and the performance difference is absolutely stunning. The S23U is so much smoother and definitely more powerful. I have yet to test the cameras in the next few days including the battery life. Thumbs up Samsung!

MATE 30 PRO, 10 Mar 2023https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=12157&id... moreA lottttt better than this nubia is the Vivo x90pro+ for comparison with s23 ultra because I've used both the vivo and 23 ultra. Nubia ppi is 400 while Samsung 500 and vivo 525. Nubia fingerprint sensor is optical while Samsung and vivo are rocking ultrasonic. Many other big differences as well

Less than half of what the S23 Ultra is worth.

3 hours 30 minutes video streaming
1 hour 30 minutes of gaming
                      2 hours browsing
                      20 minutes messaging
                      10 minutes Camera

Totalling 7 hours 30 minutes screen on time, at which point I hit 10% battery.

Voiceofreason, 13 Feb 2023Seems you are a hater of Samsung. I will counter your point... moreI meant that as a way to say that there are in fact cons to this phone. No phone is perfect, and pretending as such is a surefire way for companies to never even consider fixing the issues with their phones.

The headphone jack is a dying feature, that's true, but it doesn't mean we should accept something inferior. It doesn't hurt anyone to have a headphone jack, and it allows for easy convenient high quality audio. Bluetooth is far from replacing wired audio anytime soon, not to mention it's manufacturer dependent. While with a headphone jack you can plug in any pair of headphones, Bluetooth will only allow headphones with the feature built in. This immediately discounts amazing pairs of headphones like the Samson SR850, Sennheiser HD600, and other high quality wired headphones. As for pricing, while on the surface Bluetooth headphones are relatively affordable, wired headphones are still far better priced. Say you're a fan of airpods pro, or the Sony WF-100XM4's, those both cost 250$, and if you have to replace them every two years, in a rather short 6 years you'd have spent 150$ more on a vastly inferior audio product than if you'd bought a pair of Sennheiser HD600's at the time instead, which would've sounded much better, lasted far longer (especially since the consumable components such as earpads and cables are easily replaceable. In the long-run, wireless headphones are far more expensive and not a purchase that will keep its value very long.

When I talk about custom software, I mean privacy focused android forks like GrapheneOS. All things being equal, it's far easier to install a custom operating system on a Pixel phone than it is on a Samsung phone.

Regarding the MicroSD card, it too is far cheaper than internal storage. If you bought an S23 Ultra today with 1TB of storage, it would cost 2,210$ CAD. If you bought the base model with 256GB of storage and 8GB of RAM, then purchased a 1TB SanDisk Extreme Pro1TB MicroSD card fast enough to record 4K 60FPS video easily, your total would come to 1849$, a savings of 360$ for 256GB more storage, with enough fast storage for your apps and games, and plenty of room for media. Far less expensive, far easier to use since you can easily transfer from another device in less than a minute, and far more functional since you can use a MicroSD card with any device, including cameras, PCs, and Laptops.

Regarding the size of the phone this was simply a comment on the fact that this phone is not perfect for everyone. I'm also a fan of large phones, but I wouldn't call a large phone perfect, I'd say it's perfect for me. Phones are not one size fits all devices, and we should not treat them as such. For the way I use my phone with over 200GB of lossless audio and 50GB of pictures on my SD card, it's much more financially viable to use a MicroSD card, not to mention better for my use case since I can plug it directly into a laptop to transfer media to it, and I can plug it directly into any cameras I may purchase in the future.

Cloud storage is not a viable solution to the lack of expandable storage in modern phones. It's expensive if you need a lot of storage (which I would - atleast 500GB at some point), it requires an internet connection, it requires an expensive data plan if you want to be able to access your data out of the house, and it poses privacy concerns as your data is in a seperate entity's data center rather physically in your possession. I personally go for bike rides a lot and listen to my library of lossless audio, which would cost upwards of 80$ CAD a month for a data plan that could support that amount of data throughput. I'd spend almost as much every month on data as I did on my 512GB SanDisk Extreme Pro MicroSD card, and it would be slower, less easy to use as it wouldn't be directly connected to my phone, and unable to be integrated into my audio player. It's just not a good solution.

I'm not talking about vintage Exynos chipsets, older than most of 8 years old, I'm talking about the recent ones, don't overheat.
except if you are playing a demanding game in a very warm place outdoors, then could overheat, but otherwise it wouldn't.

I've many Galaxy S powered with Exynos, and I don't have any obliterated screen, Exynos, Qualcomm, Mediatek, Tensor, Kirin throttle, all chipsets throttle in certain point, but some throttle more than others, this isn't the case of Exynos, can maintain the sustained performance for longer periods of time without throttling.
The UI optimization is good, in the high-end segment.
