Samsung Galaxy S24 teardown results in 9/10 reparability score

Vlad, 31 January 2024

Samsung's Galaxy S24, the 'vanilla' model as the saying goes, has been disassembled on video by YouTube channel PBKreviews. It follows in the footsteps of the top of the line S24 Ultra, which got the same treatment last week.

The S24, as it turns out, also has a larger copper vapor chamber than its predecessor - almost double the size, in fact - just like the S24 Ultra. This is a theme with 2024 flagship S-series Samsungs, it seems. Throughout the teardown, we're shown all of the different parts that have been removed, one by one.

To get into the phone, the back plate can be pried off after applying heat. The camera lens covers can be replaced individually. The S24 doesn't have an UWB antenna, unlike the S24+ and S24 Ultra.

The mainboard is a dual-layer design just like last year. The 12 MP front-facing camera is glued into place, which means it's only replaceable if you use a knife to cut the glue. On the other hand, the rear cameras can all be popped off easily. Both the main rear camera and the telephoto camera are confirmed to have OIS.

The battery can be removed easily with a pull tab. Unfortunately prying off the screen without damaging it is almost impossible - then again, if you're replacing the screen, it's probably because it was damaged to begin with.

In the end, the Galaxy S24 gets a 9 out of 10 reparability score. It managed to get maximum points for parts availability, the ease of battery replacement, and the ease of replacing miscellaneous parts like the charger port. It got 1.5 out of 2 maximum points for internal organization and how much time a repair takes, as well as for screen replacement.
