Samsung Galaxy S5 is receiving the November security update in Europe

Google may have released the December security update (alongside the new Android 7.1.1 version) for its Pixel and Nexus devices today, but that isn't stopping Samsung from issuing older security patches to some of its older phones. Case in point: the Galaxy S5 from two years ago. This model is still getting updates from Samsung, though only security fixes and not new Android versions.

Still, this is commendable in the Android world. At the moment, Samsung is busy rolling out the November security patches to the Galaxy S5 units that were sold unlocked in Europe. Up until this point, the update has been spotted in Germany, the Netherlands, and Poland. However, it's clear that it is going to make its way to handsets purchased from other European countries too in the next few days.

The November security update comes with dozens of fixes for vulnerabilities and exposures in Android. These were issued by Google, but on top of that Samsung is also fixing 14 problems in its own software layers for the Galaxy S5.
