Amazing that 2015 doesn't seem so long ago, yet this phone has been out for quite some time now. When I first got this on its first release, i was amazed on how thin it was. I didn't research it to much before I realized it had no microSD slot. It came with only 32GB (basic) because the 64GB and 128GB were being sold at a hefty price back in the day. Fortunately, cloud storage started to be a thing so i was able to move some pictures and videos to the cloud and moved them also to my laptop. Amazingly, this phone of mine still works as good at the day it came out, never dropped, never damaged. My daughter almost lost it when we were at the mall, luckily, a good samaritan found it and we were able to get it back. (God Bless their soul) Anyway to end, though my daughter already took my S8, this S6 is now back with me and i have kept it well and keep it at medium charge so as not to cause damage to the battery over long periods of storage. I still power it up from time to time, just so I can be sure that it it still working. One of the good things about this model is the IR blaster, i use it to control TV's, Aircons, etc. Amazing old phone, it has aged well, though 7 years doesnt seem too long ago.

I regret selling this phone for a chump change, it was in mint condition but the battery was horrible, 1% in 1 minute on idle and I didn't want to bother changing the battery.

Samsung tested Oreo on the S6 but never officially released it. This was news a few years back (I recall there was an article which GSMA never reported but was picked up by Android Authority and Engadget). It is pretty annoying people come back years later complaining / demanding support for a phone that was superseded almost six years ago. Do your darn research people instead of being random uninformed keyboard warriors.

Back on topic. I concur - the S6 was a flagship device with flagship specs at the time of release. Most certainly capable of running Oreo, probably Pie without major issues. But as people have alluded to it is all about planned obsolescence now; people just demand the latest and greatest, which in turn keeps the economy running and give people jobs (ie this site as well), whilst at the same time choking this finite planet a little bit more. I used my S6 for five years before moving to a Pixel 3a (my mindset was to use it just as long). My S6 got an official battery replacement before I retired it, with me giving it a charge every season to keep the battery active. And for all intents and purposes I will probably 'upgrade' to that once my Pixel stops working (courtesy of Google continuously and definitely crippling the thing with every single update).

All of these flagship phones can handle 3 and maybe 4 updates, only reason they don't is because the companies want you to buy their new phones so they stop updating them
My friend was able to get Android 11 on his S8 with a rom and it worked perfectly, i'm not experienced with stuff like that otherwise i would have kept my S6 for experiments like that

Narazumono, 10 Nov 2021So how did Samsung manage to give this phone 3 software upd... moreI've been wondering this myself for a while, granted the S6 in my collection can't get Android 8 (it being on Verizon may have something to do with this), but I've seen S6s running Oreo in public before. The S7, S8 and S9 are FULLY capable of running one more android version than what they got

So how did Samsung manage to give this phone 3 software updates, but couldn't do that for the othe phones? The S7 which came out a year later is stuck on Android 8, same as this phone which is just weird. It took them until 2020 for all of their phones to get 3 updates
