Samsung Galaxy S8 corners are very fragile, drop tests reveal
The Galaxy S8 is gorgeous but the Infinity Display takes away some rigidity. German testers from test.de have put the Samsung flagship in their special testing drum, and it broke faster than other devices.
© Stiftung WarentestThe German company has built a unique drum that lets phones fall from 80 centimeters over and over. This kind of drop test challenges the overall durability of the device. According to test.de, most smartphones went through 100 falls without significant damage, just some scratches or light dents.
Yet the rounded corners of the Galaxy S8 proved to be a weak point. The phone got a shattered Gorilla Glass 5 after just 50 falls. The touchscreen seemed to work fine and the back panel looks unscathed, but still that's something to consider.
Test.de suggests you use a case, but that will take away the premium design feeling that is a big part of the Galaxy S8 package. Still, protecting that €900 investment might be worth it.
