Samsung Galaxy S arrives at AT&T as the Samsung Captivate

It's been a little while since rumors on an upcoming T-Mobile USA branded Samsung Galaxy S started circulating and now it turned out that AT&T will be the first US carrier to get its own Galaxy S, the Captivate, which has just been officially unveiled.

Save for the design and the 3G bands, the Samsung Captivate is a complete clone of the standard Galaxy S which hit the stores a few days back.

So, just like the I9000 Galaxy S, the AT&T-tattooed smartphone will run a TouchWiz-ed Android OS v2.1 (a.k.a. Eclair) and will come with a spectacular 4-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen of WVGA resolution. And under the Samsung Captivate hood there will be the same 1GHz processor.

On the back we find the well known 5-megapixel autofocus snapper with 720p HD video recording at 30fps. As for the connectivity options, the new Captivate will pack support for 802.11n Wi-Fi as well as for HSDPA and Bluetooth v3.0.

A GPS receiver and 16GB of storage (expandable through a microSDHC card slot) will also be on board. And so will be a standard 3.5mm audio jack.

The Samsung Captivate is said to start shipping soon but neither the exact launch date nor its price have been announced by AT&T. And as far as the rumored T-Mobile loving Galaxy S is concerned, there is still no word on it from T-Mobile USA.
