2G = gsm/ csd/hscsd
2.5G = gprs
2.75G = edge
3G = umts (up to 384 kbps)
3.5G = hspa (up to 14 mbps)
3.75G = hspa+ (beyond 14 mbps)
3.9G = LTE and WiMax
4G = LTE Advanced and WiMax 2
*Being described as a 3.9G (beyond 3G but pre-4G), the first release of LTE does not meet the requirements for 4G (also called IMT Advanced as defined by the International Telecommunication Union) such as peak data rates up to 1 Gb/s . (this is also why hspa+ sometimes can be also classified as 3.9G too).
