i had bought one 10 days a go from Dubai - UAE , it's not released in Egypt yet , its very Cheek , Beautiful , unfortunately it can not make phone calls , it was for about 700 $ for the 16 GB with a local warranty inside UAE .
the gadget is really fabulous , Honeycomb is a great experience , the camera is only 3.2 MB not bad but also not good . not enough applications on the OS till now . i think if that gadget can make phone call it would be a hill of a phone .
the battery is not Ok , just 6 to 8 hours of work .

Can anyone explain why the voice capabilities would be disabled?
Certainly, they're present: the CTIA exhibition video shows tablets making phone calls. If I didn't have more faith in human nature (or corporate humans' nature), I'd guess that carriers $ugge$ted Samsung to disable it so the carrier could force customers to buy two devices (cellphone + tablet) and two plans (voice + data). I believe that Samsung could clean-up in the tablet market if their devices were fully enabled.
Since I do have faith in human nature, I believe the reason for disabling phone capability is because dialling will work much better under IceCreamSandwich, and Samsung wants us early adopters to get familiar before giving us the full experience. I look forward to seeing whether Samsung will be my favoured vendor in the future.
Another possibility is that GSM voice is going the way of the dodo, and SIP or other voice technologies, that operate over HSPA or LTE, will replace it. Samsung can't be bothered to support the dodo, despite carriers' obsolescence. In that case, I can't wait until high-speed-data voice is standardized, so my HSPA tablet will ring when my wife calls, and so I can call her back using my bluetooth headset.
Do others have ideas/suggestions as to what's going on?

contrary to the specs listed above, the galaxy tab 8.9 3g does not have voice call functionality. it can only send and receive sms (haven't tried mms yet).

Perhaps they're waiting for ICS to be released, then the 'Tab's will get it and have full phone/data interoperability. Here's hoping...

The dialler is disabled: SMS works, as does 3G and HSPA data transport. I cannot find a replacement dialler in the Android Market. Suggestions?

if you have sync the contact there is an option to call them but if you want to dial a number you can download the dialer from the market

hi, usually in gsmarena for phone if it support OTG. it will list out. but this don't have. so m very curious bout this.
1.) does this support OTG function? can it open 1TB external HDD?
2.)can i charge it through microusb?
3.) can i straightaway update its firmware in this tab without using laptop or pc.
4,) can this open 1080p Full hd movie？
5.) can this open file in android phone through a function call usb storage using cable?
4.) how is d wifi reception. is it strong.

The stock unit doesn't have voice calls over GSM feature but there are custom rom that will enable the user to make calls
