Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 to get new hinge, says tipster

The latest rumor about the Galaxy Z Fold5 comes from reputable leakster Ice Universe and it addresses a key new addition to the upcoming foldable – its reworked hinge mechanism. The new info confirms Samsung will use a new waterdrop-style hinge for the Fold5 which is not the first time we’re heard about this development. We saw a similar report from South Korean publication Naver News last month.

The Samsung Display “droplet” folding hinge mechanism will allow the folding panel on the Fold5 to form a droplet shape inside the hinge body which will prevent the crease between the two sides of the panel.

Motorola and Oppo have used similar approaches on their foldables to hide the crease. Ice Universe also shares that the Fold5 will be only 13.x mm thick in its folded state which is a big upgrade compared to the Z Fold4's 15.8 mm
