By the way, I forgot to mention that I also tried PeerBox Mobile which if you have a HSDPA or WiFi connection works really well. I especially love the Comedy TV channel. To download it, enter your phone number and Peerbox will SMS you the download link. Here's the URL guys:

More great news! I just came across a website called Handango. It has lots of really interesting apps for the Samsung SGH-i550W. For example, I just downloaded the trial version of the Oxford Dictionary (note: you have to download them to your PC first and unzip the files to a new folder and then bluetooth them to your phone and then install both files). Here's the URL:

Yeah I agree!!
Opera is such a great browser, both for PC and mobile!!
Try it - the latest is Opera Mobile 8.65
You'll notice the difference.
It's just smart enough to cater the drawback of the trackball.. No more single line scrolling!!

1st of all , for those people who said s60 in this phone is a trash . take back your words , s60 is so flexible and fun , tons of application to play with . whats wrong with it? it is licence from nokia means nokia has its reputation in this phone , any failure of this symbian os indirectly relate to nokia failure . donation from nokia ? crap.
ok , after 2 months of using this phone . i have discovered
-- excellent wifi , streams 3gp videos from mobile youtube excellenty.
-- detection time for GPS is annoying especially in emergency . well , 1st generation of phone GPS . accept it lar.
-- have get use to the trackball , tips for scrolling fast " put the whole thumb or finger to scroll , instead of tip of finger"
-- charging the phone from USB cable is pretty useless , takes 12 hours .
-- original headphone that comes with it is too rough , need cushion. pain to ear after listening long hour.
-- agreed that voicesignal software is useless.
-- camera macro is good .
-- video quality good.
-- some wifi access point gives error to the web connection . to debug it , go to settings> connections> access point> and create a new access point . the web should be able to detect connections now.
-- going to try opera browser and see the difference from orignal browser

What in the world?!! It's like Nokia and Sony Ericsson had a "mating" session and produced this! Samsung can get stupid, so we're gonna have 2 wait until SE files a LAW SUITE against Samsung for copying the exterior design, things are gonna get hot!

So I am expecting.. When I'm going back from work 8 horus from now.. it sure dead already.
I have to charge my phone every single day!

Oh thanks for the info for switching off the wlan. Hi guys out there who complained about the poor batt life for your i550w, try to get the wifi switch to never unless you need to you it and see if there is great improvement in your batt life? Any feedback would be highly appreciated. Cheers.

to TEA7... you can set your WLAN off.. go to setting, connection, WLAN... then set it to "never". Just open it if you need the WLAN. it will surely boost your battery...
do you know how to change the screensaver?

Any idea if the wlan can be switch off. I suspect this may be one of the main cause for the batt life to deplete so fast.
So far i suppose most be have to charge it everyday as it can last at most 1.5days right?

Great news everyone, I have just found a solution to the trackball problem I mentioned in my last post. To recap, it is extremely difficult to use the trackball with the built-in browser no matter what the sensitivity level is adjusted to. Well I am pleased to report that a small improvement can be found by loading the free Opera Mini 4 browser available from www.opera.com. However, the really exciting news is that by purchasing the Opera 8.65 for S60 3.x Ver:8.65 browser a significant improvement can be found. This changes my rating for this product dramatically from average to highly recommended. In my opinion, if you dont require WCDMA connectivity (ie. your carrier uses UMTS) then this phone is equally as good as the Nokia N95 and in many ways a great deal better. In my next post I hope to be able to inform you of an upcoming release of Samsung PC Studio for Windows Vista (at present it's only available for Windows 2000 and Windows XP) and I may even be able to give you a link as to where to download it. The link you need to download the Opera Mobile browser is below:
http://www.opera.com/download/mobile/?man=Series60-3.x&ver=8.65&heading=S60%203.x%20Ver:8.65&img=/img/products/mobile/platform/symbian865.gif&extra=

I think the reviewer got it right when he said that this phone will be a classic, however there are two big problems with it that are such a disappointment my review can only award an average rating. The first of these is the trackball mouse which is almost impossible to control no matter what the sensitivity setting. This is especially evident when using the built-in browser. I found it extremely difficult to navigate and in the end gave up. The second problem is that the phone supports GSM and UMTS but not WCDMA technology. This severely limits the phones ability to take advantage of the built-in HSDPA technology. In Australia, Telstra our leading carrier (similar to AT&T in the USA) runs WCDMA. This phone will not run on the Telstra NextG network, but will function on the Telstra GSM network. Trouble is if your are buying a phone like this you want to be able to use it on all networks. Other than that, if you are currently connected to a UMTS carrier and don't plan on surfing the internet on your phone, its simple design, long battery life, large clear screen with good colour rendition are all a blessing. Oh, there is one other thing which needs improvement and it may be available through an upgrade, but at this stage I don't know, and that is that the Adobe Flash Player 2.0 which is provided with the phone appears to have no way of being updated. If anyone knows of a work-around please let me know.
