One more good thing about its music player, which is accessible even when the phone is locked. You can drag the notification bar to get player controls. Long press of earphone key starts the the music player automatically.

Pros-
Phone : Responsive touch screen, Multi touch, Upgradable to android froyo, Upto 7 user screens, 5.1 surround effect. Android : Android market
Cons-
Phone : Screen fades out in sunlight, No live wallpapers, wifi drains out battery, Some apps dont install. Android : Incorrect battery status, auto connects to gprs, installation to phone memory
I have been using this cell for a week now, so i will tell you what was my experience on using it.
Price : 12.5K with 4GB SD
First thing about the body and the looks, front has a mirror look and you can actually see yourself clearly in it many times. The front gives it a cool look. The back is a black plastic shell, which i guess can be replaced with different colored one, looks ok. Now the problem with these 2 : The front glassy panel is a fingerprint magnet, becomes messy after long use and u have to wipe it regularly. The back panel is again a magnet, but for oil. The leather case provided keeps the body clean and in a good condition.
Next about the phone : When you start it, takes a bit long to load, after all its android!. The media player wont start untill your sd card is scanned fully. Beware the phone connects to the gprs directly without asking, so keep a unlimited plan ready or use APNDroid from market to disable gprs. The ui is pretty cool, TOUCH WIZ makes it even better. You can set upto 7 home screens, amazing!. WIFI is the next great feature to be talked about. It supports 802.11 b/g/n. Even with wifi, the battery life is descent. While accessing internet the browser does not lag and provides smooth scrolling. The processor is 667Mhz which is quite good for general purpose applications, but if you are expecting to run high graphic applications like games they MAY not run so smoothly. Wifi sometimes gives problem, i got mine sorted after setting a static IP in wireless settings, else it would get stuck on 'obtaining address'. The following games are installed on my device and run smoothly : Raging thunder lite, A-tilt Labyrinth 3d, Robo defence, Mobile Andrio, spider man, Shoot U!. We hear that some applications wont run on this device because of its resolution, but the actual reason for many applications to not run on this device is that they cannot access some features and admin previledges, thats why rooting is invented. This device does not have Live wallpapers, one reason may be its gpu. Galaxy 5 has Live wallpapers, should be because of good hardware and gpu. GPS is a bit buggy or i dont know what is the real problem, it did not work sometimes so i had to restart the device. I got an application called Just Gps from the market which would show you the no. of satellites in range and to how many it has synchronised/locked. The box cover says this device has BLUETOOTH 2.1 , which i heard was 3.0.The i5801 galaxy 3 also has a proximity sensor. It has no settings anywhere, so to see it in action you need to make a call, the moment you bring the phone close to your ears the backlight is turned off and when you bring it away from the body it glows again. It also has a light sensor. These previous 2 sensors are located top left next to ear piece, look like two holes. A metal detector app is available in the market which probably uses proximity sensor to get detection levels. This device lacks a front camera else would become a complete 3g phone. The talktime is also pretty descent and doenst affect the battery much. It has a ACCELEROMETER which will auto rotate the screen for you if you rotate the device and assist you in gaming. The TOUCH SCREEN is quite sensitive, reason being its capacitive and works based on the electric charges at the tip of our body parts, so you cannot substitute your finger with a pen. Screen looks good and there is no pixelation observed, except in rare cases. It has 16M colors so screen looks lively. The only problem about its screen is that in outdoors it looks very dull if you have reduced the brughtness to save your battery. The 3MP CAMERA is quite good, and the pics shot have a very good color spectrum so no complaints. It has a autofocus feature, but no flash so indoor pics do not look very good. Video capture is qvga at 15fps just enough to capture something. Anyways your phone is not a replacement for your digicam or handycam. There is no keyboard so it got to have ON SCREEN KEYBOARD. In potrait mode the keys look very congested and you end up typing wrong letter. In landscape mode it becomes comfortable to type. SWYPE takes care of the issues found in on screen keyboard where you can drag your finger across the letters that form the desired word. It also has a DIGITAL COMPASS that will help you when you are lost. The POWER/SLEEP button, EARPHONE jack, USB/CHARGER slot lie on top of the phone. The volume rocker is on the left and is prone to be pressed accidently. Two softkeys below, for menu and back are quite sensitive. In between the softkeys lie the physical home button. The SPEAKERS also have a good volume level and the sound doesnot crack. Thats all about the hardware.
About the software : Lets start with ANDROID, is a wonderful upcoming OS and further opensource which brings no limitations. The MESSAGES, they are well organised and grouped as conversations for each contact. They appear as a threaded view (like a chat conversation). The swype is the next feature. You can download TEXT-TO-SPEECH (TTS) library from android market to let you phone read out the caller id, message recipient name etc. MUSIC PLAYER is very good and has a 5.1 surround feature. Using equaliser presets make the volume bounce up and down. VIDEO PLAYER can play range of formats, one of them being Divx(avi) in resolutions upto 480p. It has a FM RADIO too, with RDS that will show station details. It worked for me on Big fm 92.7 in Goa. You can write something and update it across major SNS easily. It also has Geotagging for photos, got google maps, layar realty browser. The list of add on softwares is almost infinite for such devices. Benchmarking tools to test your device : Quadrant standards, YAMTT touch test, Android system info. The current default browser does not support flash, so you may have to download other browsers like dolphin HD. Sad part about android 2.1 eclair is that it does not support installing applications to sd card so 170MB internal memory for android is kind of very less. Hope froyo update will come for this phone.
There are lots of complaints about the battery for this phone. Its obvious that the battery will drain quickly if you use WIFI,GPS etc. Even Laptops dont provide huge backups what can you expect from this mini pc. Also sometimes the battery status will fall down suddenly. This means the battery needs calibration. First charging has to be for 6 hours without interruption, and most people do not follow this. Once battery is charged fully, let it drain completely till the phone switches off and then charge again. After that full discharge is not necessary and you can charge it as and when you wish. Do not perform this calibration process daily, it can damage the battery, so once a month or 2 months is fine. You will notice the sudden dropping of battery status does not occur. Normal full charging takes 4 hours!
Applications like Launcher pro will not run rather cannot be run due to restrictions put by samsung on using root.
In this budget i will rate this phone 4/5 .

IDEOS is still going to launch and company is developing phone OS on Android 2.2 Foryo but SAMSUNG has already developed the phone OS with Android 2.1 Eclair may be 2-3 months ago. SAMSUNG needs to re-develop the phone OS with Android 2.2 and they will provide the update and they are committed to that as they have officially announced that they are going to update to Android 2.2.
Let's wait and watch.

it makes a locking sound when properly inserted...
if still problem resists, better go to samsung care...

hey guys...............got my new samsung galaxy 3 on sunday......wenevr i put on my headset to hear songs/FM .....cant hear dem properly......for eg. chorus lines com very clearly....bt d singers voice is very low........is it sum prblm in d headset or the phone settings.............plzz help

monty, 12 Oct 2010What is rooting and wt is its benifit and how to dorooting is the process of changing the rom of your mobile phone. or in simple words it is hacking your phone to access the features that are restricted by the phone manufacturer(samsung).
rooting your phone will let you upgrade to froyo 2.2 before its official release by samsung, let your phone support live wallpapers etc.
but rooting is against samsung terms, so it will cancel your phone warranty.
and to try out rooting google it...
and if you succeed please do tell me...
