this phone seems very promising.. i can't wait to get one for myself within this year esp for my bday hopefully. i have been using samsung i600 and it never gave me any problems. though i found some few shortcomings (well there is no phone that is perfect anyway. it is how you use it that makes it perfect for you). as far as PDA phones are concerned, samsung is really promising and starting to produce quality phones. the reason why i haven't changed phones for almost 8mos which usually only lasts for 3mos with my previous units with other brands is because i can't find any unit better than what i have now. hopefully this new unit will give me the same contentment as to what i have with my i600. it is also good that it can now support Divx files and the mouse-like pad is one of a kind. touchscreen features have been too common nowadays in the market but with the mouse-like pad feature of this unit, it will surely make a statement in the cellphone trends. enough said and hopefully this is going to be a very good phone. only question now, is the battery life up to the challenge with all of these features in one unit? hmmm...

I don't see the volume rocker issue as a bug, but you can switch to S2U2 which doesn't allow you to change volume while locked.

I was able to get Google map to work on the device with the free version software.

It's really not that bad. It's faster than a regular GPS to acquire your current position. But it's about 1-2 blocks off. Also you'll need to be able to access the internet to make it work.

I haven't tried TomTom yet. I'm still waiting for my 4gb memory card to arrive in the mail.

Also, you can surf the internet at a decent speed. The pocessor is fast and efficient enough to surf at a really decent speed. At last, this is a device that you can really spend extra money through your phone carrier to get full internet access through the pda phone. My phone says it's a PXA311.

Just got mine a few days ago, just a few interesting bugs i think.

1- Bad bug! (unless someone has a solution)Once the screen is locked the volume button is still active until the phone is off (black screen) if you put the phone in your pocket you could accidently hold on to the volume down all the way to silent in which you woon't hear your phone.

2- Mouse is not a double click you click on something once it goes straight in, you can't hold or just highlight on to the item like a stylus or finger.

3- Task management is crap no option for holding on the "X" to close program completely like HTC and to get into task manager you have to hold on to the OK button unlike HTC TM is on the top right corner.

4- Turnoff backlight doesn't really turn it off, it just goes to "low bright" setting until the phone turns off to a black screen just make sure you have the turn scrren off as it will stay on "low bright"

5- you can't disconnect data sessions from the Today screeen you need to go into wireless manager.

These are the fews thing that i've found other then that the phone is great to use if only Samsung could iron out the above issues i'll be very happy!

I have changed over 40 phones in the last year switching from stylus pda's and qwerty style phones each one delivering certain aspects of the phone that I like. To me I have acquired the i780 samsung and it is the perfect phone. I am very specific with my phone requirements from 3.5g, to speed of the processor, to the battery life and front camera. Just want to say thank Samsung, well done.

My habit is writing scripts using VBA on Windows Apps. I need your comments on the excel application, if we can be able to do scripts programming just like on the normal computer.

                        Thanks.

                          Hi to all,

I'm from the Phils. I am absolutely interested with this phone. But I need to clarify first with the following questions:

                          1. Is the GPS works out here in the Phils?
                          2. Can this phone supports more than 2G of MicroSD?
                          3. Could we able to do attachments (excel, words, power point or any other files) if using the email? Limited up to what kb? or MB?

                          Thanks a lot!

I just got the phone in the U.S., and it works with T-mobile. With my old SIM card, it shows Vstream. Mawahahaha...

This baby synch flawless all the time, unlike my old Qtek 9100.

I was a bit disappointed by the video processing for Window Video Media file. It's better than the last pda that I got, but it still is not smooth to my expectation.

This phone is really unlike an HTC/I-mate, or an O2. It's really more like a Qtek.

What does it mean? You really have to know what you are doing to program this phone to get it going. For instance, I had some hard time setting up my old bluetooth speaker pphone, and my Wifi setting. Of course, it seemed that someone has toyed with the default setting. So I had to reset some other settings.

The screen is SURPRISINGLY more legible in term of text reading than my old bigger screen pda phone. But you really lose some view at the bbottom of the screen.

The mouse feature is nice. But I do a navigation button would be nice. You can change the setting to act as a navigation button, but you cannot do both (unless someone can give me a tip).

Otherwise, I'm still reviewing this phone.

I'm still trying to figure out how to set up the GPS. Anyone has specific setting for T-mobile in the U.S.?

Has anybody tried spb software on this beauty i780?

Are other games like from astraware?

How do they play on the 320x320 screen?

Bejeweled 2 works fine. It doesn't use all of the screen, but has black bars on both sides. And it's LOUD... ;-)

                                      hi i780 owners
can Bejewelled 2 be played on this phone? saw from Popcap website, requirements stated "Scaled 240 X 240"... but this phone's resolution says 320 X 320.. does that mean the game will be "stretched"??

                                        Hi TC,

Thanx for your feedback. They are indeed useful.

I must say the fact that the camera shutter cannot be silenced is a real drawback ;-(

Do let us know your experience with the i780 as you move along with the device...

                                        Thanx.
