id rather get my info from the owners of the phone here.

Anonymous, 18 Feb 2013s3 mini or s advance is better ?my brother got galaxy s advance since july. Using it great but with a little lag on GB. So i help him and flash custom. After it receive Jelly bean, i've help him flash it using odin. Perfomance is the same but somehow UI still lag a bit... But now better because i install Seeder.apk (v 2.0)
then on feb, i got my s3 mini with JB out of the box. And somehow i feel s3 mini is smoother (not a lot smoother) than s advance. I dont understand it at all because the differences just ram.
Just from my point of view, go for s3 mini :)

Actually its a pretty good phone The size is perfect and the resolution of the screen is amazing and smoother than the regular s3

AnonD-44586, 18 Feb 2013hey man, r u sure it plays mkv vids in stock player? plz, ... morei just tried to play mkv file on my s3mini(transfered via bluetooth,somehow it didnt wanted to transfer via usb)..its a sample Supernatural series video file 720p and it runs smooth with stock video player,but no audio since it says cant play DTS encoded audio...so i guess it plays 720p mkv files fine and the audio depends on the encoding...just get MX player or a converter for ur PC...i use the second,converting from 1.2GB mkv video file into 600MB MP4 file(duble less size,same crispness of the video since our native rez is 800x480,so no need of 1280x720)..i hope this helps...hmm,also on stock video player u can smoothly play 720p(1280x720) MP4 files

Instead of asking this same question again, and again, and AGAIN why don't you just Google it?
I did that and got the answer in about 5 seconds. In case you are too lazy to do that yourself I will answer it for you. NO you cannot play mkv files on a S3 without converting them to mp4 or avi format.
