Everything, and everybody else has their unique disadvantages. You cannot compare say, your husband, (if you had one) to me (though, I would encourage such behaviour). Your said husband probably has traits I could never aspire to, and, the opposite is equally possible.
Anyway, back to a practical criticism of your pickiness:
SMS is continuous, it depends the carrier you use. I have access to last month's conversation if I slide my finger up the screen, then back down. I can only say that your alternative, to the Captivate's shortcomings, is to transfer your files via Bluetooth, or your KIES-USB cable to your PC, then upload to Facebook. You can't hold Cappy liable for it's shortcomings when you compare an entirely different OS, i.e. iOS vs Android.
Wifi kills battery faster than 3G, and it's normal that when you get home after using the phone all that that you are down to your battery's bones. Did you even starve the battery down to 1% before charging it to optimize its life? Android 2.2.1 extends the battery life, yet again, depends on your carrier. Sucks if you are from the USA, last continent to get a Cappy + Andy update.
I use the phones Task manager, System Task Killer (lite), and Advanced Task Killer. I manage to keep my device between 140-160mb RAM usage
I haven't ever tried to do the things you are doing, but at least know you let the phone warm up to you and that you are not necessarily a fashion victim.
If you can bare one, or two fine points that beats Iphone straight out: FLASH PLAYER 10.1, and Super AMOLED. And what the heck...Android!

I've had all sorts of smartphones out there. My recent was the iphone and I decided to give this sexy thing a try. I loved it...for the first 4 days.
Problems with this phone were the simpliest things which really disappointed me. I hate that the text messaging isnt a continuous thread so I had to download an app for that. No problem there. I had a G1 before and that was in issue back when the OS was 1.2 version. You would think they would have fixed that bug by now.
Second problem, for some reason, I cant upload a video to facebook. I had the option to upload on youtube, twitter, gmail, but not facebook. Sucks!
Third, I cant attach a video as an sms. When you go to your gallery section, and send a video, I can only see pictures and those are my options to send. When I tried sending a video through the text app that I was using, it says that the video file was too big. Sucks again!
Fourth, the battery life on this phone is terrible. I turn all unecessary things like, GPS, bluetooth, etc. and I press the Task Killer app every so often but I still come home to 10% battery left.
I have a 3GS and this phone runs on 1gHZ, and my iphone is still faster on wifi or 3G.
Has anyone else experienced these little complications with their Captivate?!?
I loved this phone for its sleek and sexy design, but thats just not cut it.

can someone tell me if this phone could be used overseas, i mean not only calling and messaging but apps and so on.. i prefer the look of this one instead of galaxy s i9000 that we have in Ireland

turning 3g off will increase battery life and also adjusting screen brigthness setting off bluetooth, wifi, gps etc etc. will help

i've got this phone and its a great phone but one issue i found is the battery life, it doesn't last that long. I charge it almost every other day and i barely use it.
i left it overnight and it lost 25% of the battery, no apps or background apps were running. gps, wifi, bluetooth, etc were all off too..
performance is great, has good apps, screen is awesome. just wish the battery life is a little better.

desisuy, 17 Dec 2010I bought Nokia N8 early this week, great phone, great camer... moreI did the same. I had Captivate before then I bought N8 and I am a BIG NOKIA fan. And N8 not bad at all but something just not right with this phone. Now I'm selling my N8 and going back to Captivate.

cannot believe that some of u guys still go for Symbian, it just has too many hiccups and although the n8 might be a good phone with nice camera and all, a smartphone nowadays are made by its apps, and just there we can see why Symbian is going down and losing their shares in the mobile industry. gps might be good on nokia, but if I want a good phone, I'd rather buy a seperate gps before killing myself with Symbian, until meego comes maybe. Apart from all this, Give nokia respect for not jumping in the same cart as all the other manufacturers. I wont settle for nokia, because I love android, which is currently taking over the mobile market. stop fussing and ask normal people about phones, go do proper research, there are many companies testing the phones for us. compare these phones on these sites and then decide

Personally I am a big fan of Nokia but somehow N8 is not as good as it was suppose to be. Today I returned N8 and bought this Captivate and I gotta say this phone is awesome, definitely over N8. I luv it.
