I am not saying that this is the solution to your problem but it is worth considering if your router uses the new Wireless-N technology.
I have a Samsung Tab that did the same thing, kept dropping the connection on my Virgin Superhub. I discovered that the Hub scans 16 different wireless channels and automatically switches to the strongest one. The Tab however, was constantly searching for the one it originally found. The solution was to change the settings to a Static IP address.
You have to know the suppliers IP Address for the router to do that. In my case it is http://192.XXX .X.X (where X is a number, not a letter).
If you can do that, choose Wireless Settings, then Wireless Channel Settings, and then Manually Set Channel. I set mine to Ch.11 and it has never dropped the connection since.

well perhaps it is an application or some other feature which is causing all this... although i read on androidsouls.com that the cf 4.1 kernel fixed the wifi issue so perhaps it is due to some application.... anyway just rooted my phone with cf 4.1 everything seems to be good hopefully i won't be facing any problems :D

ok i'm getting tempted to use the cf root... have u used the rooting method mentioned in the link u posted?.... i'm a bit skeptical if it will work considering the 1st time i tried rooting with cf 1.7 i got boot loop problem.... please confirm the method in the link (androidsoul.com) if it is correct n that the cf root works without any problems :-D

If it isn't your own Apps that have an update then it is the Samsung ones that are installed on your phone by default. I don't bother updating them myself, but try this...
Make sure that your network is on. Then press the Applications icon on your screen. Inside, you will find an icon labelled 'Samsung Apps'. Press that and you will probably get a box stating 'Samsung Apps Update Available. Update?'.

I'm not sure whether it was XXJVS that improved the WiFi or the Chainfire kernel, but it works a whole lot better now.
I installed the CF kernel because I wanted to keep it as close to the original Samsung one as possible.
On the download page it states
"This rooted kernel is for the "rooting beginners" and those who want to keep as close to stock as possible. CF-Root takes the kernel from an original Samsung firmware, and just adds root, busybox, and (unprotected recovery and CWM compatibility) OR (CWM3)".
If you do decide to use it, you will find it near the bottom of the page.

                        http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108

                        (Look for the XX_OXA_JVS) zip.
Installing only takes about 20 seconds with Odin.
And of course, the CWM Manager it installs can be used to take you straight into Recovery or Download mode. It's also useful for Installing APK files, which I source from various sites.

Well actually i did try checking if any updates were available through the android market itself (the procedure u told me) and it did not show any updates available... i guess i'll just have to wait for any updates to pop up to confirm my doubt,,, should take about a week at the max... until then tell me if u had any apps updated so i can have a some peace of mind... oh and one more thing i did not bother rooting my phone... does the cf root 4.1 bring any significant changes (like someone mentioned it fixes the wifi n stuff) or is it just the regular clockwork mod + superuser installation that takes place? btw thx for helping me out i'm kinda new to flashing n rooting my phone :D

I've been onto the Market and noticed that they have completely changed it.
If you are getting notification that you have updates available but you can't update them from the notification bar then it is probably because you have them set to 'Manual Update'.
On the Market front page, tap the left soft key and select 'My Apps'. This will show any Apps that have an update available.

If you need to flash your phone back to Gingerbread 2.3.3 (India) then go to:

WiFi works brilliantly under Gingerbread 2.3.5 In fact, it is the best yet.
The problem you are describing is with your router. Try it with a different one.

btw i think on standby(phone not being used) battery usage is minimal(4% in 8 hours last time i checked) yet if i do heavy duty work like listening to music while using wifi or playing a game i see that battery usage is through the roof(might go from 100% to 5% in like 5 hours)... so is it common to all or is it just that my battery is getting weaker?

and yea i did not root my firmware so u could say i am running unrooted samsung made unofficial 2.3.5 gingerbread :P
