If you are thinking of getting an N8 then you should wait till about August to see if the upcoming Anna update improves the phones OS and makes it a better experience all round. Although I'm happy with my N8 as it is, there is plenty of room for improvement for the OS. Also, you may find it to be a bit of a let down in certain areas as you'll be going from a 1 GHz phone with 512 MB of RAM to a phone with only a 680 MHz CPU and 256 MB of RAM, and of course you will be losing half an inch of screen real eatate. Not to mention not very many apps compared to Android.
What you will gain though is a 12 MP camera ( the best on any smar phone ) a HDMI port, a notification LED and a very solid construction in the shape of an all Aluminium body.

All the best.

Ray

I am sorry that you feel like that, but I can sympathize with your views, because I'm growing to hate my SGS also.
My wife has a Nokia 6303 (as I've mentioned before).
          1) She charges it every Sunday whether the battery is flat or not.
          2) She happily walks around the supermarket chatting to her friends on her phone while I have no signal at all. (Yes, we are both on the same network).
          3) The torture that poor phone has gone through is indescribable. It has been dropped down the stairs countless times; waterboarded (well, actually dropped in the bath twice); and been trodden on regularly; and it refuses to die. I shudder to think what my SGS would do if I treated it like that.

I'm thinking of going for a N8 now.

I'm getting very bored with Samsung Galaxy S. The novelty has certainly worn off for me, and most days I end up getting annoyed with it just by trying to use certain basic functions like the alarm clock where you have to leave the phone switched on just to set an alarm. The GPS is a big let down as well. It doesn't even know what the name of my home town is in the UK and insists I live in the next town over. I couldn't be bothered with the camera mostly due to the lack of a flash but also due to the Fisher Price GUI of the camera app.
I'll be getting rid of my SGS soon. Probably give it to my eight year old daughter to play with.

              All the best.

I am using Galaxy S for a year now and it is undoubtedly the best Android phone. The only issue I was having the battery draining issue which was solved by this update. If you have the same problem follow this link for the update: http://www.phonesarchive.com/tutorials/update-samsung-galaxy-s-i9000-to-android-gingerbread-234.html

Guys tell if not difficult, with some screen text easier to read? Choosing between i9000 and i9003, Which is better video, and on a sunny day? Which display more reliable? Plays (flash) videoserialy online? It is interesting to convert, whether or so and all the shows? Any function in the new i9003 more? Where is the TV-out and cable for it? Is it possible to upgrade i9000 to version 2.3 ? How to distinguish between "gray" smartphone "white"? Thank you.

Fatos, 13 Jul 2011Hi freefaller,I have my galaxy S runing on froyo right now... more@ Fatos

                                      Goto the following link:

                                      http://www.theandroidsoul.com/xxjvp-android-2-3-4-firmware-galaxy-s-install-and-download/

This is where I went. You will find links to the v2.3.4 Rom that you will need, and also Odin v3.17 if you haven't already got the latest version.
Just follow the instructions on the web page to flash the Rom onto your phone.
There is also a video on the page to show you how to do it if you aren't sure. It only takes 10 - 15 minutes to flash the Rom, but don't panic if the phone doesn't seem to re-boot, it will. It's just that the first boot takes quite a while.
Remember that flashing the phone will remove all your contacts, apps etc., so make sure you have backups before you start.
DISCLAIMER: You do the flash at your own risk. I did mine without any trouble, and also my friend's, but I can't take any blame if anything goes wrong (although it shouldn't).
