I finally got my Samsung Galaxy S, I've been using it for a week until now and It's my first andriod phone.

I wanted this phone so much since the time of its release but I have waited long because I was worried about andriod software at first and how hard to get used to it because I'm a dead end symbian man, but finally I told my self that andriod is the future of the mobile os in the coming years.

At that moment I was confused between Sony Erricson "Arc" amd HTC "Desire S" but after reading about them I finally decided that galaxy s is better.

My first impression after holding it is that the phone is so Lightweight and the screen is perfect from every angle with astonishing colours. The only thing I was worried about in this phone is the loudspeaker sound because in the review they gave it below average, after hearing it I found it is loud enough to hear and I was satisfied with it :).
The battery life is very good with andriod 2.2 it lasts for 4 days.
At first I didn't understood my andriod phone at all but in 2 days I was able to deal with it. I bought the 16-gb and it gives me 13.25 gb I don't know where is the rest has gone, I think it is from the installed applications on it.
The only sad point here is there is no andriod market for my phone since I'm from middle east, but I found a way to make andriod market work but I don't know if that will remove the arabic language from my phone or not.
Thanks samsung for this device but I hope from samsung to make a Stereo speaker phone with very high sound like samsung omina HD but in andriod I hope this will be is Samsung galaxy-S III.

I am using Juice Defender - battery saver ... its free and i can see increase in battery life at around 40% approx more.

There are 5 options in Juice Def in market ... 3 are paid ones and 2 are free ....Beta and this Battery Saver ... Beta is updated frequently and unstable at times ... so went for this ... try out this App - J Def Battery Saver ..

If i am on constant chat i disable this J D app, to avoid it killing the app repeatedly on pauses / short chat breaks ... i enable it for other usual generic use .. it helped to save battery def

Is this normal. I also have LG Optimus P500, which is also 2.2, so if it so then i will not upgrade it to 2.3 Gingerbird. Pls reply.

Anonymous, 05 Jul 2011@Ray Hipkiss I just borrowed my wife's Nokia 6303 ( yeah... more That's correct. The 160 character limit is standard. It's a limitation of the networks. If you send a text from your wifes Nokia that is longer than 160 characters it will split it and send it as multiple texts. Unfortunately Android doesn't do this, but sends it as a MMS.
So, if I send a long text that runs to 650 characters on my SGS I will be charged an additional £1.24! Sending the same text from my Nokia N8 will just result in having four texts deducted from my unlimited text allowance.

                                    All the best.

Anonymous, 05 Jul 2011@ Ray Hipkiss You have to remember what the acronym SMS ... more That is true, and most of the time the SMS's I do send are short but consider this; SMS was invented back in the 1990's to keep the cost of owning a mobile down because contracts back then didn't include allowances. So if you wanted to call someone it would cost an arm and a leg, thus the text message was devised. You could send a quick short message for just a few pence. However, times have changed and contracts now include very generous allowances for calling people so SMS has to evolve to allow people to send long text messages if they wish without being penalised for doing so, such as you can within the Symbian environment.
It's basically just a simple matter for Google to change a bit of code in Android so the message gets split rather than be converted into a MMS.

                                        Kind regards.

                                        Ray
