this phone isint cheap either and with the iphone, you cant beat the apple marketplace. Its all abou the usability, what good is a gazillion Ghz cpu with 5 apps vs a 500 mhz cpu with 5000 apps (all of which work properly).

I have bough Galaxy s from Vijay sales in Mumbai two days before.I have observed a issue with it, it gets hanged up and then there's only one way out, RESTART, can anyone tell me what could be the issue? coz this is happening from first day.

mkm, 01 Apr 2011thanks for the prompt response! I'm not a techie person and... moreYes, I think it will invalidate the warranty (you how it is here in the Philippines). Anyway, in case you need to bring it in for services (given that you still have the one year warranty), what you can do is to flash back the original firmware for our country (the latest of which is Android 2.2,.DXJPE).

Just to note, your phone needs to be sim free to do the manual flash. Download and recovery mode should also work (you can read more on this from samfirmware.com). Just be very careful to follow the instructions. Do not proceed if toyr phone does not meet any of the requirements. If successful, you will be able to fully enjoy your phone.

mkm, 01 Apr 2011thanks for the prompt response! I'm not a techie person and... morebest phone ever (as of now). excited about the SGS 2. about battery complains, it is what the tech specs says:
                              Stand-by Up to 750 h (2G) / Up to 576 h (3G)
                              Talk time Up to 13 h 30 min (2G) / Up to 6 h 30 min (3G)

It means, Go to Settings > Wireless Settings > Mobile Settings > Network Mode and Choose GSM Only (2G) or WCDMA Only (3G)
By Choosing GSM/WCDMA will consume more battery specially if you are in countries support both network types ^_^.
Also turn-off Background and Auto Sync under Account Settings if you are not using Market App.

And don't forget to turn off WiFi (Pull down the notifications bar) when it is not in use. (Alternate method of auto turn of is on Wireless Settings > Advance > WiFi Policy > Turn Off when screen is off)
Enjoy your SGS!!! until its successor arrives!!!

I also felt like throwing away my Galaxy S because of the lag and the untimely updates but when I followed BlueOrange's advice to do a manual flash, everything went great. Apps no longer hanged and the general feel of the UI is just superb - both when I was still in 2.2.1 and now that I have 2.3.3. Of course, you can opt to wait but current day news suggests gingerbread is to be released in Eurpore just about now, so the Asian version should be released maybe a month afterwards. By the way, I've read an article that the 2.2.1 update is not for the Asian market although I'm not sure about the credibility of this article, especially since the update has been available in some Asian regions like the middle east.

I am about to give up on this phone, I have been waiting for the 2.2.1 and 2.3 update (Philippines) for the longest time and I'm already tired of waiting. I am now considering switching to BlackBerry because of the slow update and poor customer service.
