Well, I tried getting Kies twice, but it appears that my laptop is resistant to it (Window 7 laptop). I'm really wondering why. I used my friend's laptop to install it and it was fine. I'm really waiting to update now.
By the way, do you have Google maps 5.0 in your SGS? Is it available?

samsung galaxy S is great and easy to use, esp. excel, word and pdf is a big help to me, but i was wondering if it has a zoom in and out for camera photo, where i could find it. and is autocad application possible to install and use in samsung galaxy s.

planning to buy a hp..my priorties are camera, office app, email, e-books and battery life. is this a wise choice? are there any other alternatives that could do the 'job' excellently that i could consider? thanks.

Normal, updates always begin in USA or Europe it's not new.
You can update yours too without looking from where you are!!
Just look few posts ago and you'll find a link to update.
it's necessary to have the i9000 model.

Go to the phone settings and verify that 3G is activated.
You can proceed like this:
Settings> wireless and network > select use packet data.
Just 3 lines after click network mode and select GSM/WCDMA (auto mode).
If it doesn't work like that or don't find these options in your settings, you've a copy phone, not a genuine galaxy S.

if you have the international version (i9000), you can update it yourself directly to 2.2.1

It's an official samsung update and there's no risk at all as you'll use samsung Kies to update!
2.2.1 works perfectly, no lags, no troubles :)
