Need Help., 07 Dec 2010Maybe u right, on samsungmoblile.com i got 1.5.3.10103... moreYup, you might have some problems with that.

I have smartbro at home (it also sucks) but I was able to update Kies in the early morning (off peak hours). I also get the occassional connection lost (probably 5 times during the last update) but I was able to finish the Samsung Kies Update because if you click retry, the update/download will just pick-up where it left.

The real problem will be the Froyo update itself, if you have a slow connection. I tried updating my phone at 4am just to get a faster connection but it keeps failing. Unlike the Samsung Kies update, the froyo download will not resume where it was lost - you need to start again.

My suggestion is for you to go to an internet shop with a really fast and stable connection and then do the froyo (and if you want, the Samsung Kies as well) update there. That's what I did and after 30min, I got froyo! I promise, you won't regret the extra effort...

One last note, you can also have the update from samsung's service center but they really provide a stupid service. When I was not able to update to froyo because of slow connection, I went to their megamall branch to have them update my SGS themselves. This is the same day that I saw in Kies that the update was already available (November 21). I was explaining to them that froyo was already available in kies but they won't listen. They won't even plug my phone to the computer, run kies and click the update firmware button to prove me wrong because they haven't received the official word yet - this will only take 5 minutes! Anyway, its been 3 weeks so they probably have the official nod by this time. Anyway, because I really wanted to get the update, I went to this internet shop with a blazing fast wifi service and got my update.

mykel, 06 Dec 2010hi is the 2.2 update available in the philippines??? how ca... moreIts already available. I updated mine last November 22 (update was available on Nov. 21)

You need to first install the latest version of Samsung Kies from samsungmobile.com

I forgot the exact version number, but just search for Galaxy S and you will see the link for software downloads. Download Kies from the site and install in your computer. After installation, run Samsung Kies and connect your Galaxy S. Upon connecting your phone, just click the "Firmware Upgrade" button and wait for the instructions. Important Note: You should have either "Connect by Samsung Kies" by default or "Ask upon connection" in your USB connection settings to connect your phone via Samsung Kies.

If you have problems with the above, bringing your phone to the service center to have it upgraded is also an option. However, based from my experience dealing with them (I initially cannot update my phone because of slow internet connection but was able to do so in an internet shop with a fast wifi), the service technicians are really of no help and are superbly stupid and irresponsible. Caution!

Have used it for 3 months now. Treated it with extreme care, it's quite expensive.

GPS (Maps) is busted. Cannot point my location. Other times it shows England map (I live in Asia).

Right earphone is also busted. No more stereo for me.

Claimed my warranty, they blamed the GSM provider, switched to another, no effect. However, cannot have my unit replaced.

No warranty for earphones or other accessories, no exact replacement available.

                                    Slippery to hold.

Very hot during calls, ears like burned.

No camera flash, pitch black when taking picture outdoor at night.

Accelerometer doesn't work fluently. Sometimes turn, sometimes not. Have to shake several times for it to change orientation.

Browser changes orientation to landscape only after inputting the initial address in portrait.

Video call choppy. Have to sit very still.

DISCLAIMER: Maybe it's just my unit. Regarding warranty, maybe it's just the practice in my country.

Is Samsung updating the Galaxy S with Android 2.3? It would be a shame if it's left stuck on Froyo!
