I think that this phone has it all.
Just as good as iphone 4, only the online market isnt as good.
but not having the need to jail break this and voiding warranty is a huge bonus, and its way cheaper.
Its fast, the screen is clear even in direct sunlight, texting is a breeze ( i text close to 3 times faster than with my previous phone)and its so easy to use.
Music sounds fantastic, essential apps are preloaded and home screen layout is a beauty.
Most complaints are about battery life, but with most time spent either at work or in some form of education this can more than last an entire day.
I use it for Facebook, as my primary music player and for games, and it lasts from the time i wake up till the time i sleep.
Another complaint is the supposed "lag", but if any unused app is closed rather than left running there is zero lag. Been using this phone for close to three months now, loaded with 14+ pages of application, over 700 songs and have only the only lag i have experienced is the same kind that happens when even a top of the line computer is moody.
Oh and a little note about speed, The Galaxy S running 2.1(eclair) in most cases is faster than the nexus one running 2.2(froyo)
Froyo is supposeed to be between 2-5 times faster than Eclair.
Froyo for the galaxy s comes out worldwide by the end of November.
I recommend reading reviews and seeing what issues there are with this phone because i assure you, most are very minor problems that are only an issue because of certain users preferences.

Anup, 27 Oct 2010Somebody help me when i connect to my computer using usb it... moreThe solution, I finally discovered was to do with the UMDF (User Mode Driver Framework) service. It comes with WMP11, and installs during the setup.
Looking at the UDMF installation logs (c:\windows\Wudf01000Inst.log) - I found that there were errors during installation - I figured that re-installing UMDF might fix the problem. (and it did!) Unfortunatly, as it is not in add/remove programs, I ran into problems trying to remove it. If you un-install WMP11, it does not remove the UMDF dll's. If the dll's exist, then the UMDF installer will skip during the re-install of WMP11.
I managed to manually re-install UMDF using the method below.
To find the installer files for UMDF, you need to get them out of the WMP11 Installer.

How to find the installer for UMDF
1) Run the WMP11 Setup file "wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu"
(It will extract the installer files into your %TEMP% folder)
2) Click Start -> Run -> %temp%
3) Press F3 and search for "umdf.exe"
4) Copy this file to your Desktop
5) Cancel the WMP11 Setup.
OR Google to download umdf.exe
Now, you need to fool windows into thinking that UMDF is not installed on your computer, by renaming some files. Copy & Paste the following into a Command Prompt.

rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\wudfpf.sys den_wudfpf.sys
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\wudfhost.exe den_wudfhost.exe
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\wudfsvc.dll den_wudfsvc.dll
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\wudfx.dll den_wudfx.dll
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\wudfplatform.dll den_wudfplatform.dll
rename C:\WINDOWS\system32\wudfcoinstaller.dll den_wudfcoinstaller.dll
Now run the umdf.exe and re-install.
Spent hours trying to fix this, and finally managed to get it working.

synny, 27 Oct 2010i have this phone. i have used every new phone that comes ... morePlease install "Advanced Task Manager" to clear your RAM regularly, this speeds up the phone considerably. I had the same issue as you observed, it was very very laggy and freezing most times, i installed this app and regularly wiped out all the unwanted apps running in the background without our knowledge.
I have restarted my phone only twice after i installed "Advanced Task Manager" in last 4 weeks.

Anonymous, 27 Oct 2010@sameer, don't criticised sgs, if you dont know how to us... morei have this phone. i have used every new phone that comes out. i pay lots of money as this is one area where i do not budget. this phone is by far the worst. it shuts off during conversations, laggy and i mean laggy. i do not care about the cheap plastic but it has to work. htc gets FROY before anyone. so, i would never recommend anyone to use the SGS as they can't fix problems but genius such as yourself can hack the device and tell everyone how great it is. it may have all the components u need but it has to work from factory not by hacking. my device has 2.2 and runs like shit. shame i paid $650 USD. Don't criticize people for product they feel does not function the way it was meant to. it is an open forum to voice opinion is it not?

don't misguide people. i think you never use samsung galaxy s or their high end devices in past.i am using sgs from fist day of launch and now i can safely say that samsung made a greatest phone till todate. you silly people makes a false statement.you suck ............
