Sorry I forgot to mentioned Internet browser so will add this now to my review

Internet browser- HTC desire has a much better browser simply because can play flash videos of most format.I think Galaxy S should get flash 10.1 in froyo update but for now DESIRE is best for browsing the net.

Galaxy S VS HTC Desire

This is my own opinion having owned bot handsets.

Calls- I find the Galaxy S to have much better call signal and reception overall. On my Desire I found a constantly crackling noise in the background and poor signal most of the time.( Vodafone is my provider and normally good)

Loudspeaker- Again Galaxy wins this by miles as Desire has probably worst mic/speaker I have came accross on a phone.

Interface-Desire wins hands down with HTC Sense and overall much more user friendly.

Speed-Desire again wins on this sections being much quicker navigating around the phone and has no lag what so ever whereas Galaxy does lag from time to time.

Battery life- Galaxy wins this sections by a long way. I really struggled to get 1 day from Desire but Galaxy can go for 2 days with all extras open and ful brightness.

Video player-Both screens looks amazing but Galaxy wins this section and still to come accross a file that Galaxy S will not play.

Camera- This is a tough call, Galaxy wins for photo performance but without flash can cause problems sometime.

WIFI- Excellent on both phones and probably same performance.

Video recording. GALAXY BY MILES-quality is stunning on recording video in good light but because quite poor in low light but that can be expected.
Desire has terrible video quality even when upgraded to Froyo and sound when recording was WORST I HAVE EXPERIENCED ON ANY HANDSET.

Sound on Galaxy S when video recording is just acceptable but nothing as good as Nokia N95 or most nokia phones whcih is a shame, Why develope such amazing HD video with average sound.

I hope this will help some decide which phone is best for there needs.

taleb, 13 Oct 2010Thank you very much for the overview!!! However, is the ... moreYes Taleb 100% the Galaxy loud speaker is better than Desire, I went through 3 Desires and all had very poor speaker quality and call quality was not the best either having crackling in the back ground on most calls.

[deleted post]Sorry, I am from Sweden and I use both swedish and english.
A new Froyo, probably still beta, is released. Unfortunatly it still is not as good as we all hope the final release will be, still less than 1000 in qaudrant-score.

I have used the Galaxy S for some 3 months now and think it is fabulous, when it works.
Unfortunately, from time to time it seems to have a bad hair day and refuses to connect and exchange files with my PC. Right out of the box it was erratic. After its first charge it kept insisting that the USB cable was still connected and it would turn itself off and refuse to switch on again unless the cable was inserted. It did not need to be connected to anything it just needed to be in the socket. After 2-3 days of this I was just about to throw it out the window when magically it all started working as it was supposed to except connect to the laptop. Then a few more days later after re-installing Kies onto the laptop that started working as well. It still has the occassional sulk and refuse to connect one day but then connects the next. I think the problem is with poorly written software, especially Kies which is really a rough and buggy bit of programming with lousy interface and functions.

The phone itself is great. The screen is bright and clear and while I have seen better still cameras it is acceptable. The video is absolutely fantastic however, best I have ever had. The microphone does pick up a lot of wind noise if shooting outdoors.

The loudspeaker is acceptable though not brilliant.

All the android apps work well and install seamlessly.

samsung i9000 galaxy s, best phone I've ever owned!I always feel bad for the people who whose user experience is less than excellent but as always, what ever floats your boat, and I'm drifting in an amazing galaxy of communication.

The Galaxy S is the phone I have always wanted but never thought any company would ever produce. Its versatility is equally matched by its capability. Excellent video, audio quality that as far as I know, no phone can compete. Mobile entertainment, hands down the galaxy gets you going. From divix, to mp4, to the horrendously incompatible flv formant which indecently, I don't know any other phone that can playback flv without having to convert to a larger format. Music, just as easy as uploading. I love taking pictures on the fly and posting them straight away, Im sure other phones can do that, but it just seems so easy on the Galaxy s. And battery life, like other phones (especially in the same category)its logical that the battery gives out with heavy usage, really, especially when there are so many things going on. Clearly, my user experience is beyond the proverbial galaxy
and the only thing that mars my experience is the carrier. I've noticed one thing about my galaxy s, is that battery and signal strength are parallel, if the phone keeps reaching for those bars, its logical to think that its using battery power to do so and in my case, my carrier stinks like a dead bird on a hot day.

Overall, I would recommend the Galaxy S to anyone looking to dive in head first into the smart phone experience, its a great phone with a whole lot of meat underneath its thin light weight, unassuming, key word, unassuming, exterior.

To those with concerns about build, yes, its plastic and yes to reiterate my point above,it is unassuming, however, the plastic build really makes the phone as light as a feather in a world were portable hand held devices tend to weigh you down like you got rocks in your pockets and your trying to stay afloat in a maddening sea.

So, to recap, best phone ever, in a market where other use-to-be mobile makers are drowning trying to keep up....

As soon as the n8 came out it had problems go buy the n8 and be happy with it while i am happy with my superfast, superlight galaxy s the best phone i have used all problems have been sorted and now i have the mobile phone of the year.

Can somebody comment on the sound quality of the headphone set provided with this phone. In my case the sound is quite annoying. I am surprised if this is the 5.1 channel effect that samsung is clamming. Also I cannot understand how we can have 5.1 channel effect with the help of just two ear pieces. Although the audio output on speakers is very good. But quality of headphones is irritating. OR else there is some problem in my headphone set provided with this phone.
