Anup, 27 Jul 2010Give us some facts, links or any thing to support ur so call... moreThe documents that show the negative effect to the eyes will be published 10 years from now because OLED just now got commercialized and it needs time to make victims, it works slow as smoking. If you just smoked a cigar will you get lung cancer next day? No. But if you smoke everyday a cigar for 6 months? Maybe no. But if you smoke 10 years 20 cigars per day? Then some will get lung cancer for sure. And it needs much effort to quit and convince the cigar manufacturing and the government to shut down the tobacco industry. In the same way it works for new inventions in technology. To watch close to the eyes for 30 minutes Super Bright AMOLED, obviously close to the eyes because it is a cell phone it is as you smoke a cigar you will not lose your sight. And you may give over a while the old Super Bright AMOLED phone to your kids to be quiet and play and read web which they'll do for 4 hours a day in the next 5 years then you give them a chance to get vision problems when they'll get in their 50s or 60s and of course you will be passed away by then and you can't even see the effect of your choice. That is the real life and it repeats in cycles over different issues but having the same story line: the ignorance.

I dont get it When samsung is soaring heights people come with some nausiating comments...Do accept the fact that Samsung is doin somthing........Loads od phone use AMOLED....Here are some of the names Nokia N8,HTC legend,Desire,Nexus One,N9,N86,N85,Acer Stream,HP iPAQ Glisten,Dell Thunder,Dell Lightning,LG GW910 Panther,Vodafone 360 H2.Still u put up in this section means u use TFT screen technology and u don't want others using a technology far superior than urs. Dont be childish. In this centuary we have seen rise of technology far beyond we can expect. Prove ur fact instead of writin crap again and again. This only misleads some people who don't kno about this. The spec. list on the Galaxy S is amazing & so as the price (i saw it last week for the eqv. of 300 USD & change) , but the materials quality looked really cheep to me (nothing compared to the Spec. inside)
I was really considering one , by reading about how amazing the screen is , the fast CPU , the HD capabilities of the camera & the Android 2.1
but the plastic on it was a huge turn off for me , I guess i 'll keep looking for MileStone instead , plus my pervious experiences with Samsung phones is not good , don't get me wrong i think samsung is a great company , but i don't think I 'll a Samsung phone
No offense to Galaxy S users , but thats just me

AMOLED is definitely worse than a good TFT - ISP with LED back lit.

An important factor that has to be consider for this Super AMOLED is that the light directly beams into eyes from its source which is OLEDs.

All natural vision of human eyes is when the light comes from reflections of light, generated by sun or lamps, over objects: the photon beams don't directly get from source into eyes; also the beam of phones is not reflected as you may think: you don't get back through reflection the original photons from source; the phones are not as ping-pong balls cast back by objects which they hit; the beam is absorbed by objects, converted in energy and the objects emit other photons back in a sub spectrum of the original beam, lower intensity and broader uniformity over object surface thus giving color to objects and thus protecting the eyes from artificial light that maybe dangerous for human retina when comes from artificial powerful punctiform sources. The LED back lit from TFT is diffused over a white panel then by reflection passes though liquid crystals and get into eye so it is a reflected light, not the original light. OLED like CRT colored phosphors or plasma's pixels directly beam the light into eyes thus you are not protected from X-rays and ultraviolet emissions (UV radiation) and high energy photons which make lesions in organic tissue.

So, TFT displays are safer for health than AMOLED and CRT and plasma displays.

All reviews are excellent on SGS, however it seems that nobody has mentioned that when it comes to sync contacts, calendar, etc....it's a piece of crap. Nothing works! Give a search for Samsung Galaxy S sync with Outlook and you will realize the problem. I was so happy with my Omnia 2. I regret that I sold it for SGS.

Got it yesterday! OMG the Super AMOLED screen is stunning good and looking at the screen is really enjoyable. The font and display of Galaxy S is so fine that it seems like paper and don't even to say the vivid color. The touch screen is very sensitive so it's easy to use. TouchWiz, Samsung's own user interface built on Android, is not bad (personally I think HTC Sense is more sophisticated), one of the best points of TouchWiz is the application list, Samsung just dumps Android's default application listing style and creates its own. I think they make it very well. Rest of the software experience depend on the Android which, needless to say, is decent or pretty good in many areas.

RogerC has a point the phone is spectacular however the gps on google navigation is a little off at times, note i believe it is still in the beta stage so i'm not worrying too much, and it still gets you to where you want to go so i wouldnt write it off. Looking forward to some 2.2 tho!! Booom

I read a lot of comments about iphone4 and samsung i9000 as I wanted to purchase one of them. I've not upgreated my phone for 4 years. There're some bad comments in terms of signal in iphone4, therefore I decided to go for samsung. I'd much appreciate if someone could advise if Samsung is free of singal problem??? I did research on youtube and found following link showing that Galaxy S behave in the same way like iphone4. Please see below.

Be careful, the SGS has very serious problems with the GPS. Imprecise and almost useless. It's either problems with the Broadcom chip or rotten firmware but right now this phone has terrible GPS, it cannot be used for navigation.

Other than that it is quite interesting.. but shame on Samsung!

Power consumption - most of web pages have white background:

While an OLED will consume around 40% of the power of an LCD displaying an image which is primarily black, for the majority of images it will consume 60–80% of the power of an LCD - however it can use over three times as much power to display an image with a white background[55] such as a document or website. This can lead to disappointing real-world battery life in mobile devices.
