I work for the biggest independant mobile company in the uk, hands on the galaxy totally throws other equivilent android phones out of the window with divx player and screen quality. Super amoled is honestly much better and it shows when viewing movies.
Camera is very good but its problem is the lack of a flash, the sony x10 has the best camera by far.
Power wise ive got to about 18 apps and 6 internet pages before i noticed a slowing down of the system.
The htc desire keeps up and the x10 didnt when i ran the same test.
Everybody who whines about the os needing an update.
Its running real sweet already,
Those who complain about battery, You will have to charge your SMART phone EVERY DAY, BOO BLOODY WHO
If u want movies, great internet and keyboard input get a galaxy
If u want great music with direct links to your artists utube videos, camera, social networking, get an X10 when they upgrade the os from its poor 1.6.
The HTC desire is a really intuitive mix of the two and is the best all rounder. I WANA GALAXY.

To the people who are worried about the RAM,
Yes this device does have 512MB RAM. But that much memory will only be available in Android 2.2 or Froyo. So until you get the Froyo for this device you will not be able to use the full 512MB RAM. It's just like Windows XP and Vista, where only supports 3GB RAM.
But the BIG question is when will Samsung update the software? Frankly, I think this is the toughest thing to guess. Coz they are the masters of breaking promise. I am eagerly waiting to buy it, but no way before the Froyo update. I've had my lesson with i8910.
Regards,
ithehappy

i think its absolutely amazing...i compared it to many other phones and its just so commendable.
well what else can i say im so lost for words.
it really has great potential ad lots more can be added. i think its way to good to be ignored though, it seems to be a quiet phone i hadn't heard of it until i read a magazine, i was going to buy the samsung wave ....which is way out the samsung galaxy s'league! the galaxy s is a great phone for teenagers as it has a social hub and it really brightens up for outdoor use...which is absolutely fabulously fierce!...xx
thanks for reading my random opinion....i just wanted to be heard...x this phones been hiding...but i found it atlast...im going to get it soon hopefully, i just got to ask dad :D

Jain, 05 Jul 2010Hello, I am also confused if i shud buy a Galaxy S or a X10... moreHey Jain,
a few important things that i prefer over Nexus/Desire / X10 are:
- Daylight capable display
- TV out via headset jack and Wifi (DLNA)
- Said to have a real multitouch sensor ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVlsRCMltDg / http://androidandme.com/2010/05/news/samsung-galaxy-s-to-also-feature-atmel-maxtouch-sensors/
(very important for future apps, i believe / again something Samsung doesn't state at their pages (see my previous post))
Thats the 3 most important features in my opinion. Fastest Graphicsprocessor for gaming, big internal memory and 4" amoled-display (X10 has only LCD) maybe important to some either.
(I don't own one yet, sadly, but am buying one, as soon as i see the GPS/Ram issues are fixed)
Greetings from germany,
Paul

Anonymous, 05 Jul 2010i ran android system info (3rd party app) and it showed me ... moreThanks alot! Do you have any Screenshot by chance?
@Eric: No need to be impolite. I've read the article, and i know about the Froyo "2.6.32 kernel upgrade HIGHMEM support for RAM >256MB"
(see http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-2.2-highlights.html ). Because it can not show the real amount, doesn't mean its there.
I'm just wary because none of the big sources (Amazon.co.uk/.de, Heise, and Samsung itself, e.g.) won't state the Ram. What would be the problem of that?
At least Amazon.com's Preorder Page states 512MB.
Same with the SAR value: at least Heise claims 0,24 W/kg, which would be pretty good. Why don't they market / state things like that? Would impress me more then all the fancy Announcements...

Hello, I am also confused if i shud buy a Galaxy S or a X10 or Desire.I have read samsung has an awesome screen(am yet to see it though), but the lack of flash and very bad loudspeaker are keeping me confused from going ahead and picking it up.
To those who r already using galaxy:: Please tell me if the loudspeaker's voice is manageable or not. Is it enough not to miss any calls even in noisy environments?? Also is the construction really very weak??Somewhere i read in this section itself that it fell once and the screen broke.
and finally is the super amoled really a class above regular amoled or is it just a marketing gimmick of samsung???
having bought a samsung jet before, I know that samsung has this cheek to do over marketing of things which later turns off the buyer when his raised expectations r not met.

Eric, 05 Jul 2010RAM Information
The whole RAM thing being reported by th... moreThanks for your reply.
If samsung's comment to be taken into account, the ram sould show 256mb. But it's showing 326 mb here. Also on HTC desire, people have reported that it's showing in the region of 512 mb. It's also running on 2.1
Anyways, let's all hope a software update from samsung in the near future (!?) will resolve ths.
Thanks

RAM Information
The whole RAM thing being reported by the phone as only being 256 MB is a limitation of Android 2.1
In Android 2.2, you'll see it as 512 MB.
It has already been confirmed by Samsung and various outlets including the review from this very site.
Please use your eyes and brain to read.
Thanks, that is all and have a good day.

Clara, 05 Jul 2010Hello For HTC there is a yes/no option for data connection... moreyes in settings "Account and sync" you get into General sync settings and you got there tick button called "Background Data"-Application can sync, send and receive data at any time switch it off to disable data sending from any app... however if you want to not create data session at all i think you woul have to disable your APN settings thats safest way IMHO
