I bought this phone in Dec 2012 for its Android OS, fantastic look and feel, deep black screen etc. The phone came loaded with Android Ice cream Sandwich 4.0.4. Within a week of buying it started having the notorious "Sleep of Death" (SOD) problem. The phone doesn't wake up from sleep mode when I press the home or power button. This problem happens randomly when it has been left idle. This has been happening almost everyday since I've been using this brand new phone and even happens when the battery is 100% charged. This is a very frustrating problem as I won't know when the phone has died. Therefore I'm unable to receive important calls and cannot make outgoing calls when I urgently need to. What is the point in having an unreliable phone?
Doing a search on internet I realised how widespread this problem is. It seems as if every 2nd person who bought this phone in last 6 months is facing SOD. Its shocking how none of the big reviewers like GSMArena, CNet etc. seem to highlight the SOD issue, there seems to collective silence from everyone concerned.
I have sent it to Samsung Support and customer support guy acknowledged it was a known issue and said it will be resolved. But going by the popular online feedback Samsung is unable to fix this even after repeated service requests. I will post an update is a few weeks time.
In the mean time, if you are thinking of buying Galaxy S2, my advice is DON'T. The problem might get resolved eventually or might get worse after the latest Android update. Having no phone is better than having an unreliable one in my opinion.

Im updating now it will take about 1Hour on 2g

I have a Samsung Galaxy Sii 19100. When I receive text messages that have "download" on them and I click on the download button, I cannot find where the pics or whatever the download is has gone to. Can anybody assist please?

The Update is still showing Android Version - 4.0.4, and my earlier version is also the same, but it looks some updates are made, but it not look JB update. Baseband version is also changed I9100DDLPC and release date showing Oct 26 2012.

ddas, 12 Feb 2013No m not getting any update even after connecting to kies, ... moreJust know i got update in Kies, i am from India and JB update is rolled out for India. Guys just connect the phone to Kies and see that Internet (Fast One) is connected to PC / Laptop.

i have been using JB rom from Spain on my indian galaxy S2. today morning i got an update of about 29MB. i have not checked the changes but it has added a new music player 'play music' whcih is available on the lock screen. the earlier music player could not be accessed from lock screen.
