Can anyone who has S4 Mini in the UK and has updated from Android 4.2.2 to Android 4.3 or Android 4.4.2 Kitkat please advise how they did it?

My friend has S4 Mini unlocked and think its an unlocked handset (BTU) shows up when connected to Kies.

When checking for software update on handset ota or with Kies shows up to date with Android 4.2.2 but Samsung Com UK shows android 4.3 available but then when contact them they say only 4.2.2 Jellybean available.

        Please help thanks.

Pathetic phone for a price range of 18k. Camera is bad in sunny atmosphere as the surrounding never appears clear in heavy sunlight. Battery lasts for 8-10 hours max only using 3g network with a bit of surfing & whatsapp. It does not have a Gorilla Glass as mentioned on GSM Arena. In short if you are spending 18k then go for Micromax, LG or Lenovo wherein we get value for our hard earned money.

For better battery backup use the following steps (100% working) :-

                      1) first and foremost delete your Samsung account. For this go to :-
Settings:- accounts:- Samsung account:- tap on your account:- remove account
                      # Samsung apps are usless and keep running in background resulting in battery drain and ram consumption#

                      2) do not install any antivirous.
#Antivirous always runs in background and drains battery and s4 mini have its inbuilt Samsung Knox antivirous so don't worry its the best antivirous and firewall#

                      3) turn off all the Samsung and Google pre installed apps that can not be uninstalled except those you are using. For this go to:-
Settings:- more:- application manager:- all:- tap on apps name which you want to turn:-turn off
                      # it will help you to release a lot of ram and smooth functioning of device and resulting in lag free gaming with good battery backup#

                      4) do not install any task killer, cleaner, battery booster etc.
                      # because they keep running in background and eat a lot of ram about 20 to 30 MB. For task killing :-
Press and hold home key:- kill all the task (bottom right most icon)
                      For ram clear :-
Press and hold home button:- task manager (bottom left most) :- ram:- clear ram
                      # it will kill all the running task but before this you must kill all the task by above method #

                      5) uninstall all the unnecessary apps and games.

                      6) uninstall those apps which brings full screen adds.
                      # because they keep running in background #

                      7) if you are frequent traveller and having dual sim version then turn one sim off when traveling longer if possible.

                      8) never put network section in GSM/WCDMA put it either in GSM or WCDMA.

                      9) disable your net or wi-fi connection when not in use.

                      10) before going to bed or keeping phone on standby kill all the running task and clear the ram.

                      11) keep monitoring which apps are running in background and eating ram. For this go to :-
Settings :- more:- application manager:- running

Thank you that's what I know.

Please check if the Proximity sensor is on.
Go to Settings > My device > Call. Make sure that the "Turn off screen during calls" is ticked.

To check if the hardware is working, download "CPU-Z", select "SENSORS" tab. Put your fingers near the earpiece. If the value in "GP2A Proximity Sensor" changes from 0cm to 5cm or something, your proximity sensor is working just fine.

                                    Good luck. :)

No official 4.4.2 Kitkat yet for i9195. I don't know, but I prefer Touchwiz over stock Android UI. Although Samsung could have chosen better color combinations, the stock android looks too generic for me. No offense to anyone. Lol.

The Touchwiz launcher is inadequate. Hope Samsung could add gesture support, icon re-sizing, and custom tabs in the app drawer (not just "Apps", "Widgets", & "Downloads"). I'm using Solo Launcher right now. There are plenty of free launchers in the play store, but there's always a feature missing like no badges, non-adjustable margins, no-label icons on the home screen, etc. Paid launchers? No-no for me. :)

The screen is awesome. Aside from the infinite contrast and deep black levels, what I like most about S-AMOLED screen is its back-lighting. It is more diffused compared to LCDs where it hits you full in the face like a flashlight.

This phone can take really good photos, when there's a good deal amount of light. It would have been excellent save for these few things:
The white-balance is off when taking pics (of your lawn/garden) in the early morning or late in the afternoon. Photos have this pinkish hue.
High contrast levels. Photos looked too clean. Some of the "brightness" of the surroundings is lost.
Unfortunately the flash issue of my unit was not resolved. Buying an S4 mini in a "grey market" was my only option considering that Samsung have not officially released it in our country.

I would recommend this to anyone looking for a decent-sized phone without burning a hole in their pockets. :)
