The camera is excellent and i dont think all carl zeiss lens are better except for high end models.Yes i do agree that it takes 3 to 4 secs to open dialer,but not always.

Great phone with great camera quality. But what disappoint me is the fact that you cannot utilize the whole size of the taken picture as home/lock screen. There's always some kind of frame limiting the picture boundary that can be made as home/lock screen. Truly disappointing.Especially when the picture involve number of peoples who need to unintentionally crop to fit the screen. It's weird though because the pic fits in the gallery but not in the lock screen.

ExDialer is faster than the stock dialer, but ... moreI'm just happy to avoid the delay how ever it is done.
I know it doesn't happen all the time but before exdialer it would happen more than once a day, not to mention it would come up in call logs and you would have to pick again for the dial pad.. that was just too much to deal with.
The SIII was my upgrade, from my now 4 year old Htc HD2. And it's sad when a quad core PHONE takes longer to start the dial pad than it took an old single core PHONE to do the same thing.

I own this phone for 2 weeks now. It feels like a great smartphone or phablet so far. Only problem i've observed is it's not as good as (old) Windows mobile when it comes to handling multitasking. When i read a book via Documents to Go and open a webpage via Opera then open something else like music player etc, either Opera or Docs2Go close itself off which means when i open them again, i have to scroll down the pages again to get where i left in the book or open the webpages again in Opera.
I dont know if it's a general Android or application issue... But this is something critical and windows mobile was better handling multitasking.

ExDialer is faster than the stock dialer, but for a reason.
Go into ExDialer and press the left soft button. Choose Preferences, and then Advanced. Note the top two options... 'Keep in Memory' and 'Hardware Acceleration'. Both of them are ticked ON by default. THAT is why it is faster loading. ExDialer looks nicer, but it is just dressing over the stock dialer.

Anthony, 27 Feb 2013Nothing Atahualpa said is a lie when you strip it down to t... moreCarl Zeiss is today nothing more than a brand, and S3 actually takes better pictures than Lumia 920 (but the image stabilization on 920 is better than on S3).
I agree that the dialpad does take too long to open the first time after a reboot, but ONLY the first time after a reboot, but it is not so long that it is impossible to make phonecalls!
Samsung did have problems with the coating on the earlier models, that is why the blue one was delayed!

Just stating it is a better lens than what is on the 3III (so that is not a lie)but a camera is not just the lens.
As for the dial pad taking up to 5 sec to fully load to the point you can make a call. Im not the only one with that problem.

Have all complained about the same thing (so that is not a lie).
And I didn’t say that all battery covers for the SIII will peel. I just confirming the fact that the gloss coating can peel because it has happen to mine after 6 mounts (so that is not a lie)
Coating coming off does not mean the plastic below it is not durable. My battery cover plastic is not broken, crack, chipped warped, discoloured or degrading. The plastic is in great condition can’t say the same for the coating.

I too have an S3 and none of the issues you've mentioned have happended. In fact my S3 is now a few months short of being 1 year old and the "plastic" (which is a very durable one if you research on it) is flawless. The standard apps (E.g. Contacts, Dialer etc.) load in 1-2 sec tops.

S3 has won the smartphone of the year at MWC by GSM association. Feeling proud to own the S3.

The plastic dose peel, Carl Zeiss optics is a better LENS, and the dial pad does take long to load most of the time (5 sec can feel like a life time when you in a hurry) I find that to be so bad that I stop using it and started using exDialer & Contacts

The gloss has peeled off the battery cover in the area where the USB port is not covered by the case.
I could only imagine how much more would have peeled if I was not using a case.

I tried out Android 4.2.1 on my S3 yesterday. All went well until I tried out the messaging app which force closed every time. I flushed out the cache and performed a Factory Reset but the problem persisted.
After reading other users reviews on the Net I found out that quite a few other people were suffering with the same thing.
The ROM that is available is only a pre-release version apparently. The full version will be out after the S4 is announced officially.
I am posting this in case anyone else is tempted to try the ROM out.
