Hi,
I hv been using this metro 3310 phone for 3 wks nw. Can't compare with 5130XM as I hvn'tused that product but following are my observations in this phone:
Music quality : soothing and clear using the headphones.these are the in-ear type headphones with soft rubber padding (not sponges) that gets inserted in the ear canal and very comfortable- unlike the nokia earbud types which starts to cause pain on the ear after sometime. It insulates outside noise and u can listen to audio at much lower volume level 06 or 07 (out of 14 max) with good clarity
On the loudspeaker, the sound is very shrill- high treble-mid freq slightly dull but still quite clear-volume level 12 to 14 for sufficiently audible. No bass ofcrse due to speaker size. One practical discomfort: as the speaker is located on the backside, if you keep the phone on the bed on its back or inside a phonecover, sound- ring tone or music gets muffled- inaudible. unlike the older nokia phones where the speaker is located on the top. If u are using the speaker phone on call, you have to keep the phone slightly raised on your desk to hear the voice of the caller,or hold it in hand.
U can use the built in Eq presets to suit the sound type u like on any song (e.g.Rock, Pop, dynamic etc.)
Audio quality of the FM radio is little dull on earphones-if u hv listened to a good quality mp3 with say 192kbps resolution and then listen to the radio u will understand the difference . I found the radio in older mobiles quite bright- also No EQ setting for audio in the radio mode to correct the dullness. Also if you are using the headset while listening to the radio, you willnot be able to change the channel remotely from the talk button located on the external microphone (a very useful feature in the nokia models)
Nothing to mention about radio output on speakers.
Camera: Generally good but no flash so the picture is little darker in home setting . Some useful dynamic setting available on screen for ex. multiple shots, change resolution, digital zoom, special effects, white balance- brightnes setting(which somewhat compensates for the darker pictures), timer. Similar settings are available for the camcorder also. Picture quality is satisfactory for me (still pics when viewing on the laptop)- and looks good on phone screen too.
You can record voice also for extended time-can use it for personal note taking but I am not sure whether the sound recording will be very clear in a large room (e.g if u want to record a lecture)
PC connectivity is very convenient you need to do a setting in the setup and it acts like usb flash drive when connected to the usb port of a computer)-u get to see only the ext memcard. You can't access the internal ph mem by this- and then u can simply cut/paste/del files and folders using the windows explorer. Didn't use the proprietary samsung software as yet so can't comment on the functionalities.
Bluetooth transfer of files works very well with other phones
Battery is a bit disappointment- better if provided with a higher capacity battery say 1000mAH with such a large screen. Not sure how the performance will stay after say 12months of use as all batteries gets weaker by that time. I will see if it gets any better after 10-12 cycles of charging.
User interface is intuitive for computer users-can be little difficult for users who are not so much exposed to navigations on computers and shortcuts.
Look wise it is very catchy-the metallic backside with leatheroid plastic cover is very elegant as also the top and the sides. Aesthetically they cud hv made the keypad width a few mm shorter to make the look of the front, proportionate- (these are my personal feeling - others may feel ok about it). Functionally I feel nokia keypads are more comfortable to operate with a thumb while holding the phone in one hand (again generalising I havent used all models of Nokia though)
Unlike mp3 files, I cud not playback an mpeg video file.
The phone has only one port for all external connections. This is a proprietary port. You are provided with a usb cord, with a usb jack on one end and the proprietary jack on the other end. You can charge the phone using this usb chord even when you r transferring files to the mem card from a computer .
A travel adapter is also provided for charging from a pwer line - in India I got an adaptor with a 150-300v rating meaning if u are travelling to another country where line Voltage is 110v- this adaptor will be of no use- u have to depend on the usb cord for charging the phone in that case.
The head phone assembly comes with two cords- the headphones with a normal 3.5 mm audio jack and a seprate connector cord - one end with the propietary jack that connects to the phone and the other with the 3.5 mm hole to accept the headphones jack. You can even connect a 3rd party headphone in case u dont wish to use the stock earphones or use it to connect to a external speaker system with amplifier.
Having one port for all connectivity has a disadvantage- you cannot charge the phone and listen to music using the earphones at the same time which is inconvenient if you have a short battery life. I have seen many other cell phones (e.g nokia) where the charging port is separate from the other connectivity ports so that you can do charging and listen to headsets at the same time.
Also, as this port is located side ways on this phone (unlike some other phones where it is located either on top or bottom),the earphone assembly when conncted to the phone, protrudes out of the phone body sideways- which makesit difficult to put in the shirt or trouser pockets, or inside a leather cell phone cover (which I use to protect the screen and camera lense from scratches). Its a practical problem which I had faced from ergonomics perspective though many other users may not find it a problem.
Bought the phone from Mobilestore outlet and got a Rs 250 cashback. Final price around Rs 5200

I want to buy this phone but having some questions, please those who r using this mobile answer it.
1) how is the battery backup of this mobile as most of the user are saying that the battery talktime is only 2-3 hrs, whereas samsung website states it has 10.5 hrs talktime.. Today i had a word with samsung mobile executive he said to meet the requirement of 10.5 hrs talktime the mobile must be charged atleast 5hrs.. i dont know how much it is true..
2) what is the video recording time limit, most of them are saying that it has only 15sec limit.

I am using this phone for the last 3 months,
Main advantages:
1. Better sound quality,
2. nice camera in this series
3. Battery backup is also OK
4. Sleek design
5. Unlimited Video
6. FM is fine
It a very good competitor for Nokia, As now a days Nokia is making even high end phones also in cheaper covering material, design also very very bad. And price also very hight, then why we are going for this,
recetly I bought a nokia 3128 - but that made me disappointed, anyway this samsung is good. ( in this series)
