Quick Review if you'd like to Buy the Phone..
I've had the phone for a year now and have just done the software upgrade.. You will get an added menu interface and some super cool games with it including a great soccer game, A great Facebook widget which can update automatically. The only part I missed from the old version is that the widget bar now expels the menu item selected to the screen instead of opening it..
For the price, and the features it provides, this is the best phone I've had! IT can do tasks that some very expensive phones barely just manage. It has e mail facility (multiple accounts) which can attach, save and open documents, and I mean all documents in pdf and word/excel formats. Expensive android phones can't even do this as well - I have a Sony ericsson x10 mini and the samsung is my more reliable phone. You can even get the e mail set so that you mail comes through automatically every 30 min. Who says you need a blackberry... ;)
Also with the numerous profile settings, you can be sure never to miss a call or sms, Samsungs repeat sms and memo reminder is just so handy.... it pops up on the screen like a mini window.. The interface is modern and cool..even after a year!
As for the battery Life, Samgsung has outdone even Nokia here, switch off phone at night and you will get 4 -5 days of GOOD use of the phone!
Camera: Yes I know its not auto focus and doesnt have a flash.. Here's a tip: Set the camera to landscape mode, and select fine instead of super fine, and your pics will outdo many 5mp Camera phones in terms of quality, lighting and adaptability in light. You can do amazing Sunset Pics etc. I have takien pics which I use as Laptop/PC Screensavers and always get complimented on.. However, you can't do close up pics of text etc. Use portrait mode when taking pics of ppl and the Samsung will even make you look quite good in pics! And you can crop, edit and resize pics and store anywhere you choose.. create folders, move files, simply do anything.
IN SA, it works better with the MTN network because it connects with EDGE - Vodacom only has GPRS in most areas and the phone doesnt have 3G, even so the speed of connectivity is not that bad..
For those who use mxit, the phone works very well with it, supporting sending and receiving of files etc. A Tip, Download the older version 5.9.2, its much easier to use. There have been few instances of freezing, but nothing too serious, just remove battery and restart phone.
Sound quality with earphones is not that good tho, so don't expect too much there. HOwever, you can store and watch full length movies on the phone if you have a memory card and the wide screen is a pleasure to watch even if its not the best in terms of smoothness of the picture. Movie Sound is however very clear.
All in All, for the price, its a fantastic phone which provided more than I expected.
If your budget only allows you what this phone is priced at, there is no competition.. Check out other phones if you like, but if you are unsure or don't have the time, simply buy this phone, you wont be disappointed.. :)

Hey there, looking to get this phone... But from previous experience, Touch screen phones or high GUI phones usually freak out pretty quickly, Has any1 had this phone for an extended period and has the touch remained constant aswell as no freezing etc in programming... Any response will be appreaciated...

i have to say.. i have samsung S5230 and sony ericsson satio and for too many reasons i love my S5230 more then my satio.. this phone only needs flash and wifi to be perfect (:

A best phone i hav ever used!! I hav upgraded the software to S5233S from the samsung service center. This new software allows third party applications and an additional 3 page menu screen which makes even more user friendly. The latest firmware for this phone also allows blue tooth synchronization with the PC Studio. Screen sensitivity is the best among the similar range of phones i guess and the battery backup is excellent. The drawback is capacity for storage of SMS is jus 200 in the inbox!! Im jus in luv wit dis fone

Stay away! this was a total waste of money.. if you have low blood presure and would like it to rise to the point where your vaynes is going to pop.. this fone is just what you need, it'l have your blood boiling in seconds.. aka it sux

i purchased my samsung star but i could found his booting name like i have booting screen tells model number gt-s5233a and i need gt-s5230 and it has no include the hand writing pen but samsung star is one of the best phone for peoples does not afford the expensive phones samsung star is has low price and better looks than the nokia phones.

Didagee, 05 Sep 2010How do i remove the touchtone beeps especially when dialing When phone is in standby mode, press the volume key on the top left side and keystroke volume dial will appear - you can also control vibrate intensity there.

The touchscreen is suck, and it's handrwting rcgntion feature so very very bad, but other features is good enough for non-smartphone cellphone
