I've only had this phone since yesterday, but I'm totally loving it so far. Had no problems whatsoever.
I don't think messaging is a problem as I've read in many other reviews, I just do it on the slide-out keypad instead and it's easy. It takes great pics, yep it does lag a tiny bit but it really doesn't bother me. I love the slide across widget bar - you can add, or remove the things you do and don't want there which is a plus. I would recommend this phone :) I love it.

If you have used an Iphone or Itouch user interface this will seem like being back in the dark ages.
The touch screen is good for cam options etc.
The lack of a cursor pad/keys on the keypad is a major design flaw.
You need 2 hands to text using the keypad - the phone feels unbalanced and needs to be held with one hand whilst texting with the other ....
The cam produces very good crisp pics - but forget it in low light or indoors.
The music player is cr*p ... makes my old gramaphone record player sound good! Seriously .... the audio quality of music is very very bad .... plus no 3.5mm headphone jack ...
Think carefully before buying this phone ..... its not all bad ... if you want a good outdoor cam in a neat package, with a protected lens, then maybe consider it ... but ... lots of down falls with the other functionality ....

Do not buy this phone for the following reasons - 1.The "UltraTouch" is extremely tardy and sluggish (not at all like the iPhone); 2.The screen auto-rotate does not function as it should and sometimes just locks-up (e.g. continues to display in a horizontal mode even when the screen is vertical. However, the most overwhelming reasons not to buy this phone are - the phone shuts down at random, when connected to a power source (including when connected to a laptop via the USB cable). On the rare occasion that it doesn't (shut down), you have to choose from either running the phone on a. media player mode (totally useless), b. pc suite (the memory stick does not show up as an external hard drive as it should) or c. mass storage (cannot run pc suite but the micro-sd card shows up as an external device on my computer). Oh and did I mention the haphazard menu design/organization? Some of the aspects with the menu are shockingly stupid (voicemail settings inside the Messages option and not within the Phonebook options) etc... the list goes on. If you want to buy a 8MP camera that looks sexy, it's perhaps a better idea to buy a digicam... :( This is the only review I have written ever, for any product (such is the disgust).

this phone is wrack
i've got it...and the cam with 8mp is even worse than sony ericssons 3mp cam..

Can somebody tell me what is the problem with my s8300? time to time, neither of the buttons work, and on the screen are written 44444...I restart the phone, but the same happened. Should I give it to service or to update the software?

Just an add on to my post below.
I forgot to mention the email setup. Its very messy, I eventually got my Gmail working (their are no email profiles, you have to enter all the techy stuff smtp servers etc) but it kept downloading my oldest 50 (or whatever figure you put) of emails, not my latest 50 emails. Very annoying.
If you use the Google widget you can see your emails online but its too small.

Just don,t use the phone for business. worst I have ever had. I suppose if you are into taking videos and pictures it is fine. The screen is so sensitive if you don't lock it before you start speaking the call gets cut off. Will never use this phone again

Had this phone for 4 days now.
I'm sending it back -
I bought it for the camera which is great - the pics in good light are superb , although the lack of a Xeon flash is a big -Ve, the LED's are not very good for indoor low light shots.
The touch screen works very well, especially in Camera mode for changing settings, a very nice set of touch functions form the camera.
The reason I am returning it is for its basic phone functions - The slide out keypad is the perfect combination BUT it lacks cursor keys
(ok you can get them up via the touch screen, or touch the screen where you cant the cursor but is messy when typing a text).
The phone feels very unbalanced using the keypad - you need two hands to text because its very top heavey.
The 2nd big -Ve is the music player - The audio quality is very very poor. I've tried various headphones. My Nokia 5310 is miles ahead.
Other annoying features are when viewing pics in landscape mode if you tilt the phone a few degrees they automatically go into slide view mode paging across the screen proportional to the angle of tile - Its really annoying and you cant switch it off!
The phone is also thicker than the spec says at 12.7mm ... nearer 16mm.
Overall its a superb phone and a reluctant return, the screen is superb ... it takes some getting used to (I'm a Nokia person) but has a nice user interface.
The basic texting functions (keypad), music player, and file browser let it down ... plus the whole weight/balance thing with the slider keypad out.
