Jappie, 11 Apr 2009Text and photo? get it! The most perfect phone for that usage.I have to say I got one last week and it is a beautiful piece of kit. Lovely colours on the big screen (bet it's great for movies) and solid, well built feel. I found web browsing fast (on O2) so was only a bit miffed without the Wi-fi.
Took it back and got a Sony 905.
Trouble is I was after the key-pad for speed dial (which i soon discovered it does not have). The favourates on the widgets only give you 3 numbers at you cannot use it safely to make a quick call whilst driving. Plus bluetooth car kit does not auto-answer.
Only 2 widgets to download at the moment as well. The lack of direction button makes texting a pain if you miss-spell or need to correct as you have to use your finger to accurately spot the place in the text.
To make a simple phone call to someone seemed so much work. You also have to be "just so" with the touch screen. Volume buttons help to navigate and all lovely and clear but not enough.
Camera seemed great.
So many little niggles... I even rang the Samsoung helpline to try and sort things out. They were very helpful but noted the missing features and many people complaining. There may be a software update in the future to help but no promises.
Really lovely thing and I so wanted to keep it but just not practical for me. The 905 just starts and works.
If you understand what you want then this is a great item. As a phone I was disapointed.

This is most likely my 40th mobile phone. One word, and one word only. Fantastic! Full of features, great quality, great camera, great interface, (ok, not an iphone, but still spectacullar) great everything. Nothing more to ask from a mobile phone. Good job SAMSUNG!

Nasa, 09 Apr 2009Have had the Ultra for a week now a few comments: The to... moreThe solution to so many of these issues (I have one) would have been to have put a D-Pad around the BACK button between the End/Make call buttons. They were clever enough to including a touch and mechanical keyboard, but forgot about arrow keys/buttons. Pity, because the phone is very well made, the screen is stunning and the audio quality from the media player and radio is excellent. And the camera is tops too. All good things in life are flawed. Lack of WiFi is a non issue because the HSDPA connection is very fast and works in more places. WiFi is more suited to devices like the iPod Touch that don't include a phone.

Shamz, 09 Apr 2009I have got an upgrade soon and thinking to get this phone- ... moreYou cannot navigate around within texts that you are creating or editing, unless you use the touch screen which isnt accurate and almost makes it impossible for you to land the cursor where you want it to...other than that..and what i have listed below its a good phone...why not wait for the OMNIA HD™ i8910? You create the YOUTUBE application on it either.

Have had the Ultra for a week now a few comments:
The touch screen isnt as good as the iphone, particularly around the edges and really poor on the Internet, at times you need to tap the screen several times to get a response and even then the taps can take you to a place that never intended to go to. That can be annoying.
The internet buttons and links are so small that even getting to hit them is a job in itself, the amoled screen isnt accurate enough for you to hit correct links on the page, and even when you have tapped on the correct link you have to tap it several times to get to the page thro the link...really badly annoying and fidgety. Yesterday i spent 15 minutes trying to get to the football scores! A stylus is needed. Though even a stylus wont work on the aMOLED screen.
There is no directional key on the SMS texts. So for example if you have a text message and you want to go back thro it to ammend some of the words you have to tap the screen, as i have stated the screen isnt accurate and you may well end up on the wrong word. Several attempts are required, and its almost impossible. You will normally have to delete the Text to the point where you want to ammend the Text message from. start again!
the GPS will locate you upto a mile away from where you actually are. As an average it locates me about 500-1000 metres from my actual location and its PAINFULLY slow.
The internet loading pages speed is extremely slow too.
Photos, once you are in the photo browser, the phone has to be held on its side, as the phone does not recognise that you are holding it in Portrait. This is again very annoying and painful.
Secondly even in landscape mode or when you are hold the phone on its edge and viewing photos...tilt the phone and the photos will automatically slide to the next photo...unbelievably poor! Even slight tilt and photo browser moves to the next photo...and you can stop this either, there is no option to change settings!!!!
Finally, why on gods good earth samsung would not put WI-FI on this phone is beyond me.
Anyone looking for basic usage (voice calls , texts and Internet will have a job on their hands!)
Mostly the useability/navigation is brilliant but is badly let down by the 'bugs' i have listed above.

Just a wonder, I have this phone hooked up to my Visorlite bluetooth in the car and is fine when i make an outbound call from the phone, but when a call comes in (although it rings through the bluetooth) it automatically defaults the call to the phone which means you have to handle the phone to switch it over which is defeating the point of having handsfree bluetooth, i cant seem to default it directly to my bluetooth, Anybody know how or have the same problem??

Anonymous, 05 Apr 2009Could anybody tell me which route 66 will work on this phon... moreDear,
This phone is not running a known OS, but all i can say is that it uses a Java platform OS, so if you can get a SW that have the extension *.jar or *.jad it will operate on this phone, no matter how size is the screen as it will fit in it automatically, the point is the SW might not be fully compatible as the you don't have a navigation keys as it is a touch screen only.
Hope it is useful...
