Samsung to implement new blue phosphorescent OLED panels in 2025

Ro, 21 November 2023

A report from The Elec claims that Samsung might introduce a new kind of blue phosphorescent OLED panel in 2025, although industry watchers were expecting a 2024 debut initially. It looks like the development of the new material used for the blue sub-pixels isn't going smoothly.

Samsung to implement new blue phosphorescent OLED panels in 2025

Samsung's current display technology implements phosphorescent green and red sub-pixels, but the blue diodes are still using fluorescent. So you can't call them PHOLED as it isn't technically correct. The new phosphorescent diodes offer 100% internal luminous efficiency, compared to the blue fluorescent ones that cap at 25%.

If Samsung can make proper blue phosphorescent diodes, this will potentially improve power efficiency quite a bit. However, there's one big caveat to consider - the lifespan of the blue phosphorescent diodes is about 55% of the fluorescent blue diodes. It's a considerable drawback and that's why some people familiar with the matter don't believe Samsung will be able to implement this technology into commercial products by 2025.

Either way, Samsung will continue its R&D efforts as it will be the first manufacturer to mass produce PHOLED panels, potentially securing a huge market advantage in the coming years.

Live with your inferior LCD crap then. I had been using an A51 with AMOLED display since November 2020, no problems.

geez.. this comment section... can we have 1 single constructive opinion maybe in a lifetime?

This comment makes no sense since you aren't even getting the technologies right. IPS isn't relevant here: LCD is. It's LCD vs OLED. But see my previous comment for why you're technically wrong anyway.
