Hello all,
Just to let you know I am the proud owner of this phone as of yesterday, got it on O2 for all you Brits.
Anyway to answer some questions...
SILENT MODE - The phone does have a silent mode which is initiated by holding down the hash key. Doing so again released the phone from silent mode.
SOFTKEYS - the keys that are visible on the front of the phone when the slider is closed are very much like the touch keys on the E900, but I've gotten used to them already.
CAMERA - I've only experimented a little with the camera and suffice to say it was better than the one on my old phone (Razr v3i) I wouldnt reccomend using it as your be all and end all camera, just go buy an ixus :)
BATTERY LIFE - No idea I'm still waiting for the 'life out of the box' to die before I charge it up first time.
ERGONOMICS - Well it's not exactly heavy. However, this has to be the flimsiest phone I've ever had. It feels particulaly flimsy when the slider is active and your using the keypad. The keys seem quite stiff, much more so than the razr v3i. If youve got big
fingers this ain't the phone for you!
VIDEO - Havnt played with this bit yet.
BUNDLED PACKAGE - Quite satisfied, came with a pretty substantial software suite that deals with managing the data on the phone such as contacts, pics and vids, and transferring them between phone and pc. Also included in this is photo and video editing, where you can touch up photos to remove redeye etc.
MISC. - This phone doesnt make a sound when you slide it open/closed like on an older samsung model (cant remember which one).
OVERALL - So far so good from my perspective. I got this phone because of its incredibly small size, plus I really like the looks of it - even in the 'Saphire Blue' color it looks great, quite executive. I'd be interested to see what it lookes like in 'Platinum,' but I was in a rush to upgrade from my old phone. Plus, this phone does everything I want a phone to do. Sure there may be other phones with better specs and features that blow this phone out of the water, but I am never likely to use such features if I had them.
Defintately reccomended.

to mick,
On the site you have posted, still it has an error and all spec are temporary. In pixmania.com stated that there is no voice recording and I believe all those spec written are based on gsm arena as well. So personally, I should wait for the final spec announcement that will come from samsungmobile.com. Surely these specs will be changed.

hi everyone,
its not what we consider that counts ,is what the actual phone has its self.
we do all wish that the phone can record video in cif 352x288 or higher but it dosen't. here is the specs that i found :

another thing people, it will be ironic if this phone will have a video of 176X144 knowing that this U600 has TV out, will that is silly. If a phone has a TV out it must have a resolution of 352X288 (CIF) or 640X480 (VGA) resolution so that it will have a descent representation on your TV screen.
Well mick, hidden bits and GSM arena, why did you not think of that?

I bet U600 has a CIF video in hand or higher, this is an upgrade not a downgrade phone. This site always has an error when in comes to specification on samsung flagship phones. First they come out with spec. of U600 without FM Radio and now the site included it. Again they put QCIF video without basis just to confuse us users of samsung phones. How could this will always happen.
Another thing even the version of bluetooth are downgraded from 2.0 to 1.2 or 1.1 to some samsung phone while on samsung mobile site it says bluetooth ver. 2.0 with A2DP.

yes you are right mick its only 176 x 144 at usual 15 fps..Also mick i source all my video need at www.newmobile.nl now im in uk so shud not be nl but uk BUT british site went off last year for sum reason. This site usuall y has video footage taken with the device but new devices such as the u600 take time for results to start filtering thru.

Had a Samsung E770, and the sound was so soft you could not hear it ringing. How is the volume of ringing tones and mp3 in this one?
Cheers

This phone rocks!! You have to go with the message tones on the phone already, but it's definitely better than the D900 - that phone feels like a toy, all plasticy and horrid!! This has the cool theme wallpaper and the touch sensitive keys have been improved to not be as sensative as the E900. I'd def tell people to get this!

On the u600"s music side of things samsung have employed bang and olufsen"s digital amplifier for ultimate sound quality up and beyond just the inbuilt speaker/headfones,,this is good enuf for hi-quality stereo mp3,,wma aac, thru your hi-fi using the connector..hi quality stuff!! There is a lot more going on inside this fone than samsung are banging on about but its got inner sensor that continually increase or decrease brightness to optimun level,,its got advanced search engines,, advanced photo editing facilities,it has one click multi music facilities direct to napster and msn,,i think that the fm radio is running a system thats of better quality and latches onto the signal using a protocol called PLL (phased locked loop)
