I bought this phone a couple of weeks back after a long patient wait for it to become
available here (for around USD 285). I got the USB cable for free. This is my dream phone...! It's everything I expected it to be and more. Great work Samsung!
I would like to thank GSMArena since I found this model through this site. It's the
no.1 site for mobile phone info.
First, a word on Samsung phones:
The X700 is another fantastic phone by Samsung. You can't buy a Nokia having these
features for this price. Real value for money. Samsung has come a long way since their early models. Their continuous improvement is stunning. If they keep going like this, soon they will challenge Nokia's position as the market leader, Samsung is already no.2 in many countries - I think :-). I have seen many people switching to Samsung from other makes since of late. I was impressed by Samsung phones such as D500 & C210 which led me to the X700!
X700 Overview:
Overall the X700 is a very very cool phone. It's got great looks to go with the features, not many phones can match that.
I was unable to configure the mail client for Gmail, if someone knows how to do it pls
do post it here. I also came across some minor bugs, but these are negligible ones such as menu shortcuts not working and sound alert issues. I haven't found a critical issue with the phone yet.
Advantages:
* Superb screen - you can't ask for a
better one
* Great camera - fools people to believe
the photos are from a Digital Camera
* You get all the latest features (from
video recording to Blue tooth, EDGE to
MicroSD card support...) you're not left
out of anything
* Value for money - Such a classy phone for
its price
* Good looks - Samsung phones have great
designs, X700 is the best for me
The downside:
* Battery life - not very good, lasts
around 3 days with average use of the
features. The way the battery discharges
& charges is very inconsistent with the
time. The last 2 bars go out very fast
compared to the first one.
* The navigation keys - not a very good
design, I feel there could be problems
with usage
* Speaker volume - the maximum volume of
the speaker is poor. They have fixed this
in the newer Samsung models.
* Poor quality of photos taken in dim light
conditions - you can simply forget about
it, there is no flash anyway!
A few tips:
* Always try not to recharge the battery
till it's fully down - very important
* Keep the LCD brightness down to level 1
or 2
* Optimize keypad light (for night time
only)
* Disable all unwanted sounds
Conclusion:
The X700 is a very "Standard" phone without any extreme ends. What I mean is you get
Walkman phones, Hard Disk phones, & 3.2 MP camera phones but they're sure to lack some other features. Sure, the SonyEricsson W800i & Nokia 6233 have everything but look at the
price!
If the X700 had a 2MP camera, better sound quality, improved battery life & around 70MB inbuilt storage, it would have been the ultimate business class candy bar phone. Perhaps Samsung will put out a X700i with those features..! I recommend this phone to everyone.

I bought this handset a few weeks ago after I sold my Siemens SL75 - which btw is by far the worst mobile I ever used - and to be honest, the X700 is really amazing. It offers all the features you need. Yeah sure, it has only 1.3 MP but the quality is really outstanding and can even compete with some 2.0 MP camera phones. Maybe standby is not 450 hours as indicated by Samsung, but they are much better compared to some other handsets. The last 10 mths I have used, K700, K750, and Siemens SL75. To be honest, the X700 beats 'm all so far...

One more important thing about the phone : once you are playing FM radio and you get a call , after the end of the call FM radio stops and it will ask either to continue with FM radio ? This is a not a good feature since it will not help you if you are travelling on a bike. The FM radio should continue once the call is ended.

Maximum volume level in FM radio is good compared to MP3 player volume. MP3 player volume is too low. We cannot enjoy the music without max volume.
