Some Japanese brands are in big trouble. Panasonic is on the verge to disappear as well. I wish Japan good luck, I wish they can become much stronger.

Minu, 13 Oct 2023Agree, the only problem here is their pricing by Foxconn, n... morethat's because it's japanese culture, they really into foreign things especially american way,as much as xenophobe the japanese are, they like something foreign because it's exotic.japan have unique cultures of old and new, local and foreign, traditional and modern kind of mixing.its not just for the phone, their sport popularity, number 1 is sumo, second is baseball, their clothing, the japanese denim still pretty much highly popular, you're ranting about japanese phone pricing, wait till you see the pricing of japanese denim, and pretty much other aspects. people seems to forget that japan is still the third biggest economy in the world, japan especially in their capital have one of the highest living cost in the world. so high pricing not really weird in japan, like the others, some are reasonably cheaper, some just outrageous expensive. and discussing about japanese consumerism and economy as a whole, one need to really understand about their history and their keiretsu history to get better understanding

i have japanese friend who using iphone and mac, nothing weird about it until you learn that his father work with NEC, he into manga, anime and stuff. at that time nec have one of the wildest products in smartphone market, in nec dual w media something like that and limited edition of one piece phone and their pc business still pretty much running but still he chose iphone and mac, and when i asked about it.he explained it to me that iphone and mac pretty much very popular in japan,if you have the money you most likely ended up with iphone and mac

Minu, 12 Oct 2023I was pointing out how atrocious that seller's prices ... moreactually foxconn owned the majority of sharp corporation not just licensing. so foxconn have voting control in sharp. and for the market.if you take a look at their sales, sharp still number 1 i think in japanese market for android, but that's not because of their R series,it's because of their sense series. for a whole market, iphone still pretty much dominate in japan

Mobilemaster, 12 Oct 2023Sharp doesn't produce their phones in Japan since like... moreAgree, the only problem here is their pricing by Foxconn, not Sharp. This may be why most brands are shifting towards other ODM alternatives such as Huaqin, Longcheer, Sprocomm, Tinno etc.

The problem is that Sharp, even being respected, doesn't seem to be a very popular brand in Japan, as most Japanese people are inclined to getting "world phones", grey imported or officially sold by non-Japanese brands according to what we can notice from Rakuten (their hotspot for world phones), which is apparently an advantage for Apple.

I'm against the Apple fan theory that most Japanese people use Apple products. The truth is, we need to experience by at least visiting Japan it to understand it.

Minu, 12 Oct 2023I was pointing out how atrocious that seller's prices ... moreSharp doesn't produce their phones in Japan since like 2019 this is true, but their phones are designed in Japan. Why? Because Sharp is a legend in that country, people still respect and love that brand, so Foxconn has to do what the Japanese people wants. How they know what they want? Well, from Sharp. So my point is that Foxconn can not do whatever they want when it comes to phones trust me.
By the way there is an interesting fact the world doesn't know about, is that the percentage of Foxconn owning Sharp fell from 66% fell down to like 57%. Who said this? Sharp said.

Sharp doesn't make phones. Foxconn uses that brand name under license from Sharp Corporation, Japan. It's completely Foxconn's decision to price their products, and in typical Foxconn fashion, they ask completely unjustified prices for their products. Not a surprise, considering they had dropped the ball on manufacturing for Nokia, Samsung (A series only), Google and Apple to save costs and keep a high profit margin.

If the Japanese market asks for this mildly "unjustified" amount for their products, wait till you find out how much our electronic shops ask for each item, especially in third world countries.

For example the R7 costing like 2000 bucks is simply NOT justified. I love Japan and their products, but they sell overpriced phones now.
