The big deal:

TFT and CGS to me are a big difference. I would be repeating myself here, so I just say that the CGS has much better quality.
Smaller pixels, very bright. Just good.

The whole "deal" started with the comparison of the 7610 and the GX30. I don't like the TFT and prefer the CGS. Personal preference.
The OS doesn't matter as much to me, the only problem I have with the GX series is that Vodafone won't let the user upload Java Apps without using "Vodafone Life!".

I'm picky about the screen size and quality, and 320 x 240 px are a huge difference compared to 176 x 208. So you decide.
Functionality wise the GX20 and 30 satisfy my needs completely.

That's about it.

V801SH is made by "Sharp" and V801SA is made by "Sanyo" although they are both from Vodafone. Regarding the screen, on the GX32 and V801SH, both on them says "CG Silicone" on the screen by the handset so I don't what's the big deal on TFT and CGS.

please, spare us! comparing gx30 with 7610??? ah ah ah! 7610 is much superior, it is symbian! lots and lots of 3rd party software can be installed in that phone! sharp probably wins in screen and camera quality, just that!

          Sorry,

when you copy and paste the link, make sure there is no space before the "v801sa"...
I'll try to make it an html-link....let's see.

            Hi yall,

The V801SA is by SANYO. Check it out:

            http://www.vodafone.jp/english/products/kisyu/v801sa/index.html

The V series is just a name used by vodafone Japan. I'm not sure if the Sanyo uses TFT, but the pixels are as small as the CGS. The CGS however is brighter. It doesn't really matter, they are both ok screens.
When I look at regular TFT's, the pixel size is much bigger than on a CGS. Samsung may well have changed that. The pixels on a CGS are 1/3 smaller than a TFT.

            Anyways....next question.
I think they have sorted them problems out. I don't own a GX30 so I didn't have the chance to try everything. But it is annoying, the GX20 needs a software update.

            Anyways, cheers yall

This phone is useless as the old Samsung V200 apart from the camera and screen, who put all them restrictions on?!? NO SYMBIAN!!!!!!! or even windows mobile! and no way is the phone better then the Nokia 7610 or the SE S700 which I might say is about better in every single area then the GX30, choke on that Sharp fans!!!

Big thankyou to 'Sharp user' and 'skater42'. Thanks Guys, i'll check them phones out.
I've got another question, if you don't mind; Does anyone know if Sharp have sorted the problems with the GX-20. Problems like; The calender having no alarm. The phone not being able to remember new words, when creating text messages. Also the alarm only works if you leave the phone swithed on.
Does anyone with a GX-30 know?
PS. I'd like to add i'm not having a dig at sharp, i own a GX-20, and plan to buy a GX-30 soon.
                    Thanks again, O

skater42 you got things wrong there. The V801SA is by SHARP not Sanyo and also the screen resolution is 262K on either model. Both V801SA and V801SH screen is 262K, the difference is that the V801SH has a 1MP camera and V801SA only has a .31MP camera. Sharp GX30/32 has a CGS (Continuous Grain Silicone) and V801SH/SA has TFT (Thin Film Technology). Some say TFT is brighter, but they're both the same to me, TFT or CGS, unless you have superman quality eyes.

I hope none of us here are "assuming" that the GX phones have decent screens and cameras. I've tested them all, GX10, 20 & 30, and the GX20 & 30 have by far the best screens around. I compared the camera and screen of the GX20 with that of an Sanyo (Vodafone Japan) V801SA and it's a much better screen quality, brighter and more contrast, but only 65K instead of 262K Sanyo.
The camera was clearer, brighter and a better color contrast compared to the Sanyo.
Nokia has good features, but the design and quality of screen and camera are generally bad. The 7610 ( i don't understand myself why we compare the two), and the GX30 have not much in common. Other than having a 1-Mpx camera, the phones are different in style (flip vs. bar type), and in resolution and color quality (Nokia: 176 x 208px, 65K; vs GX30: 240x 320px, 262K;).
So, all you Nokia lovers, since Nokia can't make decent Flip-Phones someone else has to make them: SHARP. And I think that SHARP bar or slider phones would kick Nokias butt anytime too.

If you don't like the Vodafone logo buy the GX32 which has no Vodafone logo. what's so good about the Nokia 7610? is it the looks? Personal preference but I think the 7610 looks like a piece of thick bread, too big. I don't know why a lot of people says that the GX30/32 is big? It's a lot smaller and compact than the 7610 which doesn
                            t even fold!

This phone's OK the best thing about it is the screen, its by far the best display I've seen and the camera's top notch too its just the Vodafone ristrictions that really gets on my nerves! its too restricted and for that I think that my Nokia 7610 is better, it has better features, camera thats almost on a par and looks alot better too especially when you take away all the Vodafone logos splashed everywhere.

why is there always some idiot who obviously works for nokia on every single review in here? the nokia 7610 isnt even in the same category as the GX30, so why compare them? people who want the GX30 obviously want a flip phone, and not a block (with an awkward looking keypad, i might add).

                                        to o,

for a 2.0mp camera check the mitsubishi m900 out!

                                        to nokia lovers,

if you can come up with a nokia that beats the gx30 functionwise then and only then you can say that nokia is better. sharp has the best quality phones available today, try and appriciate it!!!
