These are the most durable and easiest to repair smartphones of 2017

Yordan, 05 January 2018

Teardown and durability test expert Zack from JerryRigEverything, decided to hand out awards to the phones that impressed him the most with their durability and ease of repair.

JerryRig gives the Most Durable Smartphone of 2017 award to the Nokia 6. On the other end of the spectrum is the HTC U11 that was had a surprisingly easy to crack display. Since it has pressure-sensitive frame that acts as one big button, it is in direct contact with the screen and therefore more ephemeral.

Other categories include most repairable phone of 2017. The title goes to the Google Pixel 2 due to its easily replaceable screen and sealed hardware underneath.

The new trio of iPhones - iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X are built with a back glass panel, sandwiched under the camera, making them the least repairable smartphones of the past year. And having them serviced by Apple is going to cost you dearly - a replacement costs between $350 and $500 if you don’t have Apple Care.

Three other awards include the BlackBerry Keyone as the Most Improved Phone of 2017, HTC U Ultra Sapphire Edition as the Most Innovative with its 6” sapphire glass on the front. The last prize for Best Budget Phone of 2017 goes to the OnePlus 5T.
