Went fishing and put the phone in my front sweater pocket and it fell out into the lake, I got a net and tried to fetch it for 5 days straight on the last day I could see a spot of yellow and was able to grab it. The phone was 12 feet down in a lake for 5 days still worked.

If you want an iphone, you don't want a Sonim. My XP7 was over 5 years old when it was finally destroyed by being run over by a tracked machine. It was big, it was heavy, it had a poor camera, it sometimes locked up, and charge cables where worth a small fortune. However, at 5 years old it was still going strong, it had been stepped on multiple times, dropped in mud, water and even grease, dropped from ladders, crushed in my chest pocket, stored in pockets with keys and change, left in direct sunlight on a dash (the iphone beside it wouldn't even turn on). This phone survived everything but a 35000# machine running over it. New, I charged it once a week- literally. This past winter being outside in coat pocket and running bluetooth constantly, I still maintained three too four days per charge. #1 like- the volume! #2 the notification indicator light (fantastic feature that would allow leaving phone in "safe" place and still see from a distance that there was a missed call or message. #1 dislike- cost of charge cables and their unavailability. #2 not the best hand held mic and earphone- however 90% of my calls I used the built in handsfree mic and speaker and they where fantastic! As a tradesperson with this phone you will laugh at your coworkers as they cry about their broken screens and when they are scrambling to find a charger at the end of the day, or when they are running to another room to try to hear their phone over the jobsite noise. I would get this phone again in a heartbeat, however my carrier now has only XP8 and I am being forced to change models. If I don't like the XP8, I will be E-baying another XP7

If you want a fancy-schmacy new-fangled super fast phone to play the latest games or take professional pictures... this may not be for you.
But if you want a tough, tough, tough phone that can survive use in a garage... this is fantastic!
I've broken so many screens on my octo-core bazillion mega pixels phones (even with protective cases) that I couldn't take it anymore.
This phone delivers exactly what it claims to. It's tough.
I don't us it to play fancy games with. I use it for real-life, hands dirty work. I've dropped it on concrete many times. I've stepped on it with work boots. It just works.
This is a second-hand phone (previous owner bought a newer model from Sonim) and I'm not paid by Somin in any way.
Mechanics, carpenters, tradesmen in general... you need a Sonim.
I love it!
That's my opinion.

Mihai, 13 Aug 2018Is a microphone No that's an antenna not a microphone (sticking out at the top right), you'd usually find them in phones from the 1990's to as late as 2005, so seeing one in a 2015 Android smartphone is just plain weird.

I bought this phone in March 2017. The battery is pretty good, a full charge with ONLY texts/calls I've got 11 days out of a single charge With HEAVY USE (on it all day) I only get 3 days out of it which sucks but still better than my Samsung for battery life.
Pros: battery, Definitely holds up to not breaking the screen. I've thrown my phone off while horseback riding into the sand, I've dropped it accidentally while riding, I've dropped it onto many different hard surfaces and so far not shattered. I've got scratches which are to be expected with how rough I am with the phone.
Cons: rear camera works pretty well if well-lit. The front is mostly good too with good light.
Software glitches OFTEN. I've fought this problem since buying the phone, I just am not willing to ship it off for them to factory reset and send back which I've had to factory reset it myself a few times.
Overall, I do like the phone for basic needs: Texts, calls, music (spotify) and messager

It's easy to describe this phone.
I have tried all the roughest phones that have been made, but this is undeniably the best.
It has got a couple of times locked, but it must be expected when it gets so rough used.
Filming under ice, in the air from 30000 feet. Lost in water / soil. Lost down from 20 meters high from mountain side right in stone. works perfectly in -40 C.
It survives, you have very good battery, probably the best on the market.
But it's not a phone for a player, it works best for extreme use. But also for active craftsmen. And if you're tired of buying a new phone because the big phone manufacturers are going to trick you and buy that shit as they make and earn extreme sums on garbage phones, yes, you switch to Sonim

We have about 80 sonims in our business
Mainly used for the Maintenance teams, dust, iron filing, wet and salty conditions
Good points
1) Battery is long, up to a week dependent on what you are doing
2) Durable, 1 dead from internal failure, two being dropped and left too long in the ocean.
3) repair service is good
4) Solid, durable phone (functional in the best sense)
Problems {please note, some of seem to specific to areas and not to the phone}
All Maintenance Teams had Blackberries before
First, some people love them, they do exactly what they want
People who have being using higher end phones..........etc., etc
1) Complaints about dropping calls ( maybe location based, we are spread out from cities to remote locations)
2) Complaints about call quality
Some users say no problems others say:
My Sonim seems to have poor sound quality from the receivers end as I get complaints all the time about people not being able to hear me where I can hear them just fine.
3) Encryption has caused a slowdown (security policy of company requires encryption)
User opinion:
I was curious if you had any other employees that have performance issue with their Sonim phones after the encryption process.
Mine regularly is having programs freeze or taking a long time to the point my screen saver will come on.
However, I’d like to add this phones is tough as nails !! other than the sluggish processor ( even new ) I have been able to use it in the rain and battery life is about 5 days with airplane mode on !!
3) We notice the update function no longer works
4) Sonim does need to update the internal hardware, it is pokey. It needs to more memory and a OS upgrade ( current is 5.1)
5) There are complaints that the Camera quality is not sufficient. A lot of trades people are taking picture of serial numbers/labels, etc. I have not had time to test this
6) Complaints about size ie not fitting in bike shorts when on call during weekends. I was going to suggest a sporran....
Thanks
