Yeah, indestructible but software stinks!! Not as loud as an iPhone. Screen scratches anyway. Can't find a way to have SD card as the main memory as it's filling up. The waterproof charging port cover "set" was UNBELIEVABLY $$$$ priced and doesn't stick all the time anyway. The last update screwed up the operation of the phone even more. Writing this just reminds me of how disgusted I am with this phone. I was so happy when I thought I'd found a phone that I wouldn't destroy. This one destroys itself from the inside.

My opinion, the XP& was a much better cell phone!! They are both nice and rugged which I like, but the XP8, everytime I touch the damn thing something pops up,like the Bell message from the right side! I hate to put it in my pocket because I don't know what settings will be change! I NEVER had a problem with the XP7 that I recall!

The FirstNet coverage is excellent. Battery life was impressive at first, but after a year or so, it's just normal. The phone is super rugged, and I've tested it by throwing it MANY times in anger. I've used phones with Android software for years, but whatever Sonim did to the software of the XP8 is criminal. The messaging system doesn't work with talk to text, so I had to download a different app. The Q reader function does not work with ANY app. It just flat out won't scan. Sometimes the screen will not "wake up", and the only way to get to see anything is to plug the phone in. After one update, the "delete" option for text messages went away. A month later, after another update, the delete option returned. After a different update, the microphone doesn't work when on speaker. Sometimes, the phone just absolutely won't let me answer. No buttons or swiping will get to the call screen. The other day, when the phone was on the seat of my truck, it began dialing one of my "favorites". I hung up, and it went to the next. And the next and the next. Then it started adding contacts to favorites! I had to do a restart. Every week, it does some freakish thing that no tech person can explain. (The other day, the answer screen was just a tiny bar across the middle. My eyes couldn't see the tiny phone symbol, and my fat fingers couldn't get to the phone symbol fast enough to answer.) It won't bring up an option to update passwords when trying to link email accounts. You have to dive deep, deep into settings every time IT decides our passwords must be changed. This phone is the biggest technological hassle I have ever experienced in my life. I hate this phone. (I tell our IT and tech gurus every week that I hate this phone. It is the WORST.)

These are great phones for the sign industry, but the lens has micro scratches that make all photos cloudy. we have to be able to take clear pics for our clients.

Al, 28 Aug 2021Generally I am very happy with my XP8. I don't seem to... moreyes i have the same problem with the lens.

Generally I am very happy with my XP8. I don't seem to have any of the reception issues that the others are complaining about, but then again, I have a top notch service provider. My one complaint is with the camera lense, which seems like it became scratched over the last few months which is now affecting how the camera is interpreting light, leading to crap pictures. Selfies still work ok.

Replaced my damaged XP7 with a XP8 and hate it. Battery life is half that of the XP7, the screen easily scratches and I don't find it user friendly to use. I'm
going to see if my XP7 can be repaired and get rid of the 8.

Good and bad/before and after; I loved my 7, don't like the 8 but wtf its what I had to keep the 8 for 3 years...when new I noticed the battery died way faster than the 7.. checked with Canadian repair folks, quite arrogant! 2 years in the phone went off four lifts of staging.. and warrantee was awesome! [ same repair place clearly a different employee ] Now, this month, I uploaded the latest update and the phones speaker stopped working. [ it is on the net as a issue ] so I went to Bell... I am seven days past my 3 year warrante, Bell who advised I contact Sonim directly as they are supposed to be forgiving to some extent [ I still think its a crap software issue not mechanical/electrical.. two emails and a phone call later and no response from Sonim itself. Went to same repair folks who answered quickly, advised they contacted Sonim, and advised I can pay Bell who will sent it to them for an estimate. [ if you have ever done that it is always 90% of what a new one costs ] ... so I am using my old Sonim 7 until a new, [ or software correction/update for the 8] and far better than the 8, Sonim 9 comes out... Love Sonim product, especially 7, not the 8 so much, but service is all over the boards... come on Sonim 9! End of day if you need a tough phone with solid warrantee it is hard to beat Sonim... support side, well they are only human... [ most if them ]

DryBSMT, 15 Jul 2021I purchased 6 of these phones two years ago for our company... moreSonim xp8 owned less than one year dual sim controller doomedfirst one after six months, sonim sent a replacement phone but all it did was rebbot, sonim sent a third xp8 that rejects all inbound phone calls, msgs dissappear, at&t call protect was uninstalled , options not available on phone not sure what happened to them. In my view highly overrated phone, was a mistake to buy it. never again.

I purchased 6 of these phones two years ago for our company. We work in a dirty industry with dirt and dust, muddy hands and water. Every phone has been sent back for repair and some two to three times. The biggest issue is the camera lens. It gets hazy from micro scratches and becomes unusable. Then there is the charging port - it always fails so we bought a rack for charging that does not use the plug but the two contacts on the back. Cost as much as one phone pretty well. We have had several with water damage and others that just stop turning on. Each time Bell sends us a loaner phone we can't use because it would not survive our industry. Then it takes almost two months to get the phone back and they send us what appears to be a new phone. Soon the problems start again. Then, once the contract is up, they stop repairing and send me to deal with Sonim. From what I hear, that is no picnic either. I will be looking for an alternative phone now.

I have managed technology all over the world for many large companies, including ATT. I bought this because ATT "upgraded" their system and my 4G phone no longer had full capability. I needed a ruggedized phone. This one is great. Excellent design and build.

I agree with negative comments the support is terrible. My plastic piece that covers the audio jack cracked and peeled off so I requested a replacement and they told me they cannot send me a replacement part for used phones. What a joke

So I'm XP8 is the worst phone ever. I will never get another one, this is my second one, I was told when I got it that they upgraded the software. It's just as bad as my other one.

Have spent the last months time going back and forth by email concerning a deteriorating screen that is fogging up and loosing its capabilities. After all kinds of demands from Sonim regarding the phone they now want it sent back to see if it can be repaired. They have no answer as to how one is supposed to function while the phone is in their care. You ask to escalate the issue to a manager and it is like talking to a wall. Clearly they are not in the United States as all of their responses are in the middle of the night early morning. They can’t even seem to indicate if this is a warranty issue or it is going to cost $$ on top of paying for shipping to where ever they are at and more than likely paying to buy a new phone in the interim along with setup fees while they decide what to do. Worst customer service ever.

I've had my XP8 since it came out and have had zero problems, It has been dropped many times on pavement & concrete, fallen down flights of stairs, ran over by an 18 wheeler, gone through the washer, dropped in dirty oil when I was chaging trucks oil then sprayed with brake cleaner to get oil off and many other situations that destroyed my old so called military waterproof Galaxy Active phones, plus it has a 3 year unconditional warranty. It gets signal everywhere, when much more expensive IPhones & Samsungs will not, also it has never been glitchy or slow, the camera can take good pics if you adjust the settings correctly. I also have 9 Kyocera durable smartphones that are really tough and truly waterproof, I love all my Kyocera phones and want the 4 I still dont have
but my XP8 is much tougher/heavy duty and my daily driver phone

I agree with ALL negative comments about this piece of junk.
Worst money I have ever spent.
To make matters worse, the service from Sonim is beyond bad, terrible, reprehensible, pathetic, awful, you get the idea.
I have never in my life had such bad service.
I have never even been treated this poorly by the tax man!
These guys could write a book on how NOT to treat a customer.
My phone took a short fall and blew apart. Back cover poped off, battery fell out and the battery tray inside broke.
The phone has been sent in for service twice, both times returned to me in the same condition as sent, unrepaired.
Now trying to get even a reply from thus excuse of a company is becoming endless.
They won't even reply to me.
I call, just to get a run around.
This first started almost 7 weeks ago.
Terrible company, terrible product, and even worse service.
DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY!!!
I can't even find the words to express my anger, frustration and disappointment.
                                        An unthinkably bad company.
