Angry Medic, 27 Mar 2021This phone is the biggest piece of trash I've ever had... moreI agree with those who dislike this phone. It's a piece of crap at best.

This phone is the biggest piece of trash I've ever had the displeasure of spending time and money on. Constantly freezes up, super slow to load anything, completely useless with Android Auto, and has to be reset a dozen times a day due to losing all data connectivity that a network reset does not remedy. For a phone aimed at public safety, the security updates are months if not a year behind regular Android, and ATT does not troubleshoot the phone at all.
Worst $800 I've ever spend.

Sunny D, 21 Feb 2021I've been eyeing this phone for awhile now. I too, an ... moreTry the Samsung Xcover Pro. I have had mine over 10 months now and have had no issues. I was like you. I was seriously thinking about buying the XP8 or because of the removable battery and toughness, but not at this time. Because the Xcover pro showed up last spring in my country.
So maybe in the next version XP9(?), if it has a decent (telephoto-3x optical zoom?) camera and the host of otherXP8 issues fixed. If it has an FM radio receiver. I would ditch my current Xcover for that. I really do want a bullet proof phone, but I want at least mid to high range performance.
My Xcover Pro with Otterbox cover is probably as tough of a phone as one can get without going to Sonim XP8. Its performance has been fine. Camera is good, but I was coming from a Samsung Galaxy note 4 ( with removable battery) that served me well forever.

sonim are the worse phones I've ever used. Both have been work phones, or I would have taken a sledge hammer to the first one, a long time ago. Don't buy sonim, because everything about them is old technology, horrible and hideous to used.

I too, an tired of expensive phones that crack and shatter within weeks of purchase. I currently have a Motorola G7 which honestly has been the toughest phone I've bought so far. Had issues with sound but not a crack or a scratch which is amazing as I'm very hard on my phone's, but I'm looking for something a bit tougher always, thankyou fir your positive feedback. Probably going to get the Sonim xp8 today.

I recently purchased a new factory unlocked xp8 and I've noticed an echo during phone calls. I also purchased the Klein 3.5mm Adapter for XP8 to used earbuds/headphones and during call while using apple earbuds I started to hear static noise which is also heard by the person on the other end of the call. I thought that it was the earbuds and I connected a new pair of Samsung earbuds but the problem continued. Also when the static noise starts I noticed that the volume turns down on it's own.

Amazing phone, I was tired of cracked screens and broken devices after short periods of time. This thing is a tank and has taken everything I've thrown at it the past few months. I'm extremely tough on my stuff, conversely, I expect my stuff to perform and be there when I need it. That being said, I think people are picking on thus device without taking into consideration what it's designed for.. It's designed for first responders and military personnel. It's not meant to be an iPhone or a regular run of the mill Android phone. If you're looking for the snappiest processor and the latest Android, look elsewhere. If you want a phone you can depend on, look no further.

This is the worst phone I have ever had! Just one day it stopped working properly - I don't hear other people when I call them on mobiles phone numbers. I hear them when others call me or when I call stationary phone number. I live in UK and use EE network. It works properly with other SIM cards like Virgin. But.... My EE SIM card works properly in old XP7 and Samsung Xcover Pro.
Sonim help is a nightmare. It takes months to get help. I had to send handset to their repair centre in Czechia. Obviously I had to pay for shipping. I got back another XP8 handset, but this problem didn't disappear. In the meantime I got new SIM card from EE. I contacted them again. I was waiting more than month for answer and this time got prepaid label to post it back to Czechia.
During all this long story I bought Samsung Xcover Pro. It works without any problem.
Summary is simple XP8 doesn't work in UK with EE operator. This is lesson to buy only main brands phones in the future.

This is a man's phone for sure. Strong, rugged and loud enough to hear outside and definitely not a wimpy phone. . . but of course you need to be strong enough to carry it since it has some weight. LOVE IT!

My girlfriend bought me the xp8 because I'm rough on my devices and often need to have them repaired, due to my own negligence. The phone is definitely robust. I've already dropped it a couple of times and so far so good. This review is to speak more to the function of the phone from a user standpoint. I'm obviously not a tech guy so forgive my ignorance but I just want my phone to work like it should. We pay so much for these devices, even less expensive models like this one, how can they not work right 100% of the time? In the text messaging app, I often cannot open pictures that people send me, without closing the app, reopening it, then tapping the photo again. Sometimes this must be repeated several times. The phone turns off by itself several times a week, regardless of battery life, or whether the phone is in my pocket or on my nightstand. The camera works fine for me, but compared to the camera on my girlfriend's iPhone, it is like using a Polaroid. The iPhone is obviously in a different class altogether, but I though that was worth mentioning. The camera itself is buggy. For instance little problems like sometimes when I turn the flash off and take a photo the flash still functions. again, I must close the app and try again, often having lost the opportunity for the photo I had been trying to capture. There are lots of little buggy glitchy things like that, too many to enumerate, I'm finding. And like I said, I'm not a tech guy and these issues might be easily resolved with an update or whatever, but as it is the phone would get 4 starts from me out of 5. It does still work properly most of the time, but when it starts acting up I get frustrated and come online to vent about it. It's still probably the best option for me because I'm an idiot and will undoubtedly be accidentally testing the reputation of this tough phone.

I had two new Verizon XP8's and neither would recieve texts. I sold them and got the AT&T version, It works 100% and Verizon was the only carrier that would work where I live, but now this AT&T XP8 always has four or five bars. After update to android 8.0.1 it is exactly the same as the newer Verizon version. I totally love this phone, I put a SanDisk 500gb micro sd card in it and it works great, the 1tb would also probly work, when the price comes down I will get one to try. Overall I can say the AT&T XP8 is a great phone, that is totally worth the price!!!!
