If they can fix the bugs and improve on it They give a reason for people to buy the product. Part of the the reason I did not buy it was camera sucked, some software issues that did not appear to be having company support.
I think most owners would write a review if they had an issue and then Sonim came through on solving it. I have read that that this has happened sometimes, but 2/3 of the other comments seems like the owners of the phone are left hanging.
It will be interesting to see next generation of tough /battery removable phones coming from Samsung, Sonim or even perhaps Google?

But in this spring 2020 the Xcover Pro came out and its similar in a lot of ways. I added an otter box defender case and it is probably almost as tough as the XP-8....Almost ;-) . I have had it several months and no issues with it. Camera is better then the XP-8 I believe in color and etc.

I've had the Xp8 with Telus for several months. I ended up getting it because I have broken a bunch of phones at work. As far as durability it's great. But it's software and camera functionality is far inferior to the non durable phones I've had in the past.
      1. Losing phone calls - when a call comes in on the lock screen you have to swipe up to accept the call. Unfortunately, that option does not work and I end up watching the accept icon bounce up and down as the phone rings. I end up calling a lot of clients back.
      2. Camera - I take a lot of pictures in my work and the XP8 by far takes the worst pictures of any smartphone I've used. It will take upwards of 4 seconds before the picture is taken from the moment I tap to take a picture.
      3. Battery life is excellent but I can't let it charge while using it or the battery heats up to the point where it because uncomfortable to hold
      4. Although I haven't experienced dropped calls, I do lose signal long before others lose it on their cheaper phones
      5. I've called Sonim's tech support over some of these issues. Very dismissive and quick to say it's a problem my carrier is responsible for. Even though basic software issues such as the bouncing accept button would be a Sonim issue.
Would I buy this phone again? No. If I want durability for a phone with major functionality issues, I'll just buy a high quality protective case.

I use these phones for work. They are quite durable but their software is problematic. We have 3 phones that have 6-8 months of use and 2 have failed. One of the most recent cases is where the phone would repeatedly turn on and off and at some point, would fail to turn on again.

I have 2 new XP8's in the Verizon version and absolutely love them, they have reception everywhere, never drops calls, great WiFi reception, Way better than any AT&T phone I've ever had and better than all my Verizon, Kyocera - Catapillar or Samsung, The 3 programmable buttons are awsome plus a double press of power button starts camera, My SanDisk 512gb micro sd card works perfect in the XP8, when I can afford I will get the 1tb, This is the heaviest most solid phone I have ever had or seen, I will definatly get the XP9 if it has a better camera and keeps everything the XP8 has, It would be great if they would use a thicker version of the sapphire screen Kyocera uses on the Brigadier, and Verizon Duraforce Pro & Pro 2. All in all, the XP8 is the best, most durable phone with many features

I had AT&T Samsung Galaxy Active 5 & 7 witch always dropped calls lost reception and wouldnt work in my house, basically overpriced junk. Out of all my current and old Kyocera, Catapilar, Samsung & IPhone, the Verizon XP8 is the !!!!Hands Down Best!!!!

Worst phone I have ever owned,
Drops calls all the time, when rotating phone it will rotate from landscape to portrait “when it feels like it”, if on landscape and its rotating it won’t go to portrait, the worst camera ever, it super dark. Can’t use pinch to zoom in or out. When opening text messages you can only view some of the text and if you double tap to zoom it may or not zoom “only when it feel likes it".

One of these day I will toss it out the window onto the freeway.

Can anyone tell me how good the Sonim XP8 FM radio receiver works on the phone? I just bought an Samsung Xcover Pro and its has an FM reciever but is problematic right now to get it to work. I was wondering if the Sonim has a built in app with the phone and is it really easy to use. I do enjoy music at my work and tend to "whistle while I work", ha!

Save your money. First time owner of a Sonim phone. Just purchased a SonimXP8 two weeks ago. All it does is drop calls and while speaking voice fades in and out. Going back to my Kyocera. It is 5 years old and works 10 times better than the Sonim XP8 !

We got several of these phones at launch and they have been in daily use by workers in the field since, we have been very satisfied. Phone has proven to be rugged (though does *not* survive being run over by a dump truck!), usable in direct sun and alerts can be heard above nearby machinery. It's designed for field conditions so you should not wish for earphone jacks or other unsealed holes in the case.

(XP-9?? ) But they need to put in a good camera..put in the Note 4 camera with its 3x optical zoom and leave the earphone jack as basic plug in ear phone are cheaper to buy and not as easily lost ( kinda like the mitts on a strings when your a kid) I see people dropping them out of their ears all the time. Keep the removable battery. I like the weight build and design of the XP-8
But Samsung is now selling in Canada the XCover pro which has android 10. So I bought that instead of the XP-8.
If Sonim comes out with the next version (XP-9??) that is more polished and some of the issues raised here by users fixed and a good quality camera with telephoto camera. I will sell my Xcover Pro and get a newer Sonim which I consider the tougher phone. I would also more like updates with android over the life of the phone. For me I like to keep a phone for 4 years before up grading. I am still using a Samsung Note 4 and had no issues with it other then replacing power on off button. I use it when travelling and have no issues. There you go take a note 4 or 5 basic guts and "Sonim-modify" it with android 10 or 11, decent camera with telephoto lens and keep the good Sonim stuff. Like the removable battery, loud speakers, FM radio and remove the pulse measuring fluff/bloat ware and s-pen. Also make it so you can use it in North America and anywhere else in the world you may travel.

Bought this to replace Note 5 as I tend to drop things(case in point dropped the note 5 the day i got it flat on its screen on Walmart's floor. Hooray for Otterbox!)That finally stopped working. I have had this phone for less than a week. Went to run Pandora through the Klein 3.5mm jack adapter. no joy. Pandora plays through speakers fine. Went to call parents and no dial tone-no ring tone-nothing. DEAFENING SILENCE. And for them when they picked up, absolutely nothing as well. I wanted to avoid the newer phones because of the ever increasing lack of connectivity options, but i guess i have to go and bite the bullet. Worst phone experience I've had and I shattered the screen of my second smartphone into millions of tiny little pieces. That one still worked when I switched to the Note 5. Restart brought sound back to calls but this is absolutely unacceptable in my book. I know what it is to be stranded in the middle of nowhere with no way to contact anyone. I do not trust that a restart will always work to return the phone to working order. And if i can't trust something I consider as important as a lifeline cell phone why should i have it?

My Sonim phone seems to have a glitch that occurs every so often. For some reason it automatically turns off the audio for text messages randomly. I check the volume settings and they are all on. I call the phone and I can hear the ringer, but the text sounds don’t come through. Just vibrates. It will only fix itself if I restart the phone. Then who knows how long before the text audio goes out again.

STVL, 18 Jan 2020Did you ever hear back from sonim about the saving picture ... moreI've owned both XP7 & 8 and have had nothing but a great experience. I've had the XP7 rn over by an excavator and dropped off four stories of scaffolding with nothing wrong. XP7 had shitty port covers and a small screen, my XP8 I've dropped if a swing stage and I've thrown it in a fit of rage at work and the only problem I had was a grommet shift inside a button that needed fixing. Sonim phones are the industry standard out on the oil fields of Canada and it's a phone and company that's totally won me over. Yes there are some drawbacks (ie.weight, lack of ear phone jack), but the positives far outweighs the negative. Plus the fact that Sonim has a 5 year unconditional phone replacement program is what ppl like myself who use phones as a tool and not a status symbol love. I WILL buy their next version when available and I suggest you do your own research and find out for yourself..
