I am now on my 2nd Sonim xp8. 1st one quit receiving calls after 1 year and I had it replaced by AT&T. Have had the new one now 60 days and it reboots every few minutes and sometimes freezes on the boot up screen. In that case I have to remove the battery and replace. Neither phone will let you save or open attachments from messaging. overall the phone is very sturdy (which is why I bought it) but has lots of software/hardware issues. Terrible phone. Do not waste your time or money on this p.o.s.

I think its a good phone with some small issues that should have been worked out or updated by now ( if they have not been already). I came close to buying it this fall (2019).
But they need to make a new phone (next version XP9 ??) that has a good camera with at least 3x optical zoom. (Even police need to take good crime scene photos for the court) I use camera on my work phone to take pictures of equipment and process and need a good camera and optical zoom helps me get closer. TO record printed labels, specs and etc on machinery or conditions of damaged items. I also like taking scenic pictures and vale a good quality camera in my phone.
In the XP8 I do like the FM radio and speakers. But do have a earphone jack in the next version. Do keep the large capacity removable battery, which was the number 1 reason I wanted to get this phone. Followed closely by its military toughness. There was some guy on You-Tube just doing videos trying to kill this thing. I need a phone that can take that kind of abuse. I do not care about the size or weight. I want it tough. I am a big guy with big workers hands, A small phone is almost useless to me as a bigger phone I can handle, like my note 4 I can use one handed.
But XP8 is a phone that is now due for a new and improved version of it. So I will wait for it if it promises to be an improvement in this year ( 2020). Hoping Sonim will make an announcement that its coming out in the next months after Samsung puts out its XCOVER FIELDPRO out in the next few weeks.

Had it for two days now and so far every call has been cut short cause the earpiece and the mic both quit. You can switch over to the loud speaker and continue conversation. Will do it sometimes right away and sometimes after a few minutes. Have rebooted and removed battery still does it. Very annoying! I think I would really like the phone if I can get this resolved.

Only issue I have found with this phone is the inability to save a picture that is sent through txt messaging. I am going to contact Sonim Monday to see if there is a solution. I have to be able to save picture sent for work. I am a technician and need to see what my guys send me in the field.
Other than this issue the phone is great!

Great phone for guys with big hands, who's outdoors a lot and extreme conditions. I work in all kinds of weather and I do not need to be worried about my phone. I can dive in the ocean, drop it in the snow, leave it on a construction site and even have a truck run over it and it still works great..... Also, the kickass battery life with removable batteries and dual sim cards for both GSM (T-Mobile) and CDMA (Verizon) networks….this is the ultimate smartphone for an active person...period..drop the mic!

I have the XP8800, a great concept for hard outdoor activities and hands on workers. It is good for working in hazardous areas (class1, div 2). There are issues with the photo texting functions. I need real-time photos for work and play received and sent by text. This function does not work on the phone. I have waited for an update but have decided I need to change back to Samsung, it is not getting better.

Previous I used the xp7 and was more than pleased. It never let me down.
I needed one with little more screen area for GPS function when om motorbike.
This XP8 have been perfect as well for my need i harsh conditions.
It is ment to be used for workers and as someone said. "If you shower before work this is probably not for you".
Camera is good enough for my need on vacations and at work. I never copy my pictures to wall size.

I have had my XP8 for over 7 months now and I love it. It's been dropped, it's been wet and still no issues. About the biggest complaint that I can make is that I can't find a nice stylish case. That and the finger swales on the back cover break off pretty easily, but a new cover is cheap. Instead of having two phones, I just dropped the sim from my work phone into this one and I don't need to carry two phones around either. I seem to get better coverage and WiFi connectivity with this phone than my coworkers who have Apple and Samsung phones.

Works good. Had to have it swapped once due to proximity sensor failure right out of the box but the replacement has been great. Not to mention easy to get swapped with 5 year warranty.
I have taken it in the ocean and pools no issue. Specs are nothing to write home about but if you want a phone that takes a beating look no further.

I currently have a note 4 with a otter box and have been looking at this XP8 for a long time. I love the toughness of it. AM concerned about some of the internet usage and map usage with it. the big thing that prevents me from buying it is taking good pictures. If it had a decent camera and an 3x optical telephoto feature like the note 4. I would buy it. I actually use the telephoto option at work to zoom in on machinery to get clearer details of machine components I work on. love the fact you can change the battery. So easy to do, so fast, no sending it to the shop for a repair and best of all. A cheap replacement battery or have to buy a new phone. Economically it makes sense. I also read they are updating the android operating system to the next level for this phone

I have had this phone for about a year now and these are the things I have noticed with it.
I have had many issues with this phone. I have this phone for personal/work use. The biggest issues I have with the phone are:
Apps keep crashing. The two main apps I really use are Flipboard and theChive they both frequently crash or the phone freezes then they crash.
The phone will randomly reboot. There is not rhyme or reason to it. I will be using Google Maps for GPS and the phone will shut down and restart, or I will be sitting at home and the same thing will happen.
The touch screen is very bad. It often doesn't read in cold temperatures (here in Canada) it will often just read the heat coming off my hand and make random "presses". Overall the screen detection is not very good. It being in my coverall pocket I will pocket dial without unlocking it.
I have the occasional issue where it will not charge. This one is just a heads up when It happens I have to unplug it and try it again. (Yes its plugged in all the way)
The camera is alright. The shutter is very slow after you hear the shutter sound you still have to hold it for another second or the photo will come out blurry. The Plastic lens cover is alright it being in my pocket right behind my pocket book it gets scratched up pretty badly.
One of the pros to this phone is that it is very durable. I have dropped it on some angle iron and all I have is a very minor chip in the very bottom of the screen. I have gotten weld spatter on the screen and you'll never notice it. It often falls out of my pocket and hits the floor I have no fear about damaging the screen.
I would recommend this phone only if it is a work phone and you have another one to use.
