I had been reading and researching this phone for close to 6 months and finally decided to go for it instead of waiting for the Aino. I had read every complaint, looked up every reported failure, and made sure that I understood exactly what I was getting myself into.
After 1 week, I'm sending it back to be repaired.
I dismissed most people's concerns because I thought that locked handsets presented more problems. Buying an unlocked version, I was sure that the handset wouldn't have nearly as many issues as were being reported on this forum and others.
I was wrong.
To be clear, I loved the phone. I absolutely loved the phone. My girlfriend had just gotten a W995 a few weeks before, so I didn't have a "brand new" honeymoon phase with this handset like I do with most new tech. I've had a Sony Ericsson T300, T610, and K750, so the SE UI wasn't anything new. As usual with SE, it was slow, deliberate, simple, fully functional, and a joy to use...then the issues started creeping in.
First, the number pad was a problem. The "3" button and "#" button were both way too tight. Pressing them offered little to no response, making T9 text input very frustrating. It often resulted in me backspacing to correct my texts because I had put too many or not enough spaces in my messages.
The other issue was the navigation keys. The buttons on the C905 were, in fact, a little too close together for my taste. After playing with the W995 whose buttons were spaced plentifully, the soft keys being so close to the "send" and "end" keys was a little bit of a pain. While on a call, using the right soft keys to access call features resulted in me hanging up on my calls a few times. On top of that, the left soft key was sometimes unresponsive. The first 2 seconds after the left soft key's function changed (usually after changing screens) pressing it resulted in the desired action. But after being on that screen for a moment, the left soft key took a very hard intentional press to activate it.
The battery was disappointing as well. I could get 3 full days of regular use out of my K750 with 1 full charge. I know that the screen is bigger, there are more features, and a better camera, but the C905 offered about 1.5 days of regular use with 1 full charge.
I was willing to live with these issues though. It was until the screen died that I knew that all of the criticism was deserved. I opened the slider, the wallpaper froze, I shut the phone down, and the screen never came back on.
Again, my recommendation on the C905 is that it is SE's best phone to date. I say that because of the features and design (I didn't mind the thickness or weight at all, by the way. I actually preferred it). But with the inconsistency in the build of this phone, it is EXTREMELY hard to recommend it. My advice would be to wait for the Aino (September) or Satio (December).

if i dont use my phone is lasts 12 days. Just learn to charge it properly dont use it when you charge let it go dead before you charge 50 procent brighness bluetooth off gprs off 3g off and then you will see that it help on batterylife unless you have ruined the battery already

reem, 21 Aug 2009thanks so much for ur advice, the price has come down recent... moreReem,
Like I said, if you go to other web sights you will see what I mean about the complaints, compared to this web sight. I know there are phones in every maker that are 'Bad', but that is a chance that you take with anything, and any phone that you get. Phones are like people, they are all different, and it depends on the person if they like it or not. Just make sure your carrier will allow you to trade the phone in if you do have problems, or you dislike it for some reason. My carrier will let me get another phone of my choice, if I have problems with the phone. That way you will not be 'stuck' with it, if you dont like it, or if it has problems, that way you will have little to worry about. I look forward to hearing about the phone from you. Take Care!!

Alison, 21 Aug 2009Hey, i have this phone and TRY to use it. And i have had so... moreLOL!!
I did not say I had all the answers, you did. All I said is that you find more people complain on here than you do anywhere else, that was my point, and that is funny. Anywhere else you go most of the people are happy with the phone, so if you are not happy with the phone why do you not get another one? Dont know about your carrier, but mine will give me a choice of another phone if I have problems with the one I have. People here make it sound like the End of the World when there phone has a problem. GGGeeezzz.....grow-up, get another, get it fixed or get over it.

This phone is a fail. I got the copper gold version and was excited how well it will fair against my old Nokia 6220 Classic...to my dismay the C905 is rubbish. Why you say? Let me enumerate:
1) The photos are really dull, smoky, and could use a bit of sharpening...ironically even in the natural sunlight in which SHOULD be the greatest ally of any photoshooting!
2) The phone hangs after turning of the WIFI, I am not surprised...this brick is running a 170mhz processor as compared to the nimble 369mhz of my old 6220 Classic.
3) Batteries with normal use, and when I say normal includes using all features, last only 1 day 6 hours. The LCD is already at 50% brightness.
Again, there's more small disappointment to this phone...the 8.1mp is just a scam...more pixels doesn't mean better quality. Think 10x before buying this phone...I'm leaning on the Carl Zeiss models for now...this is a stupid phone.

reem, 19 Aug 2009Hi i saw this phone and since that day ive been saving ever... moreIf you would go to web sights and read peoples opinions THAT USE THE PHONE, you don't hear none of the crap that you read here. Most people complain about it being 'bulky', small keys, and I have only heard of one person complain of low volume. Most of the people here have nothing better to do but complain.

I heard about the short battery life and the earphone not working. But I have had my C905 now for 6 months and had no problems at all with it. Like all Sony Ericsson phones it's great, but I think the AGPS is rubbish, its accurate to 1700 metres..? You could be almost 2 kilometres from where you need to be and still be lost!!

I absolutely hate this phone, complete waste of money. The camera is useless, it takes forever to actually load, it is so slow at everything, the battery life is just rubbish. Ive had it 5 months and im taking it in for repair already as the firmware has failed. Its constantly got a red light flashing on the side and half the time wont let me ring or text people. I was dissapointed with the video calling as you have to use the back camera (on such a techy phone??)
In my view the last few SE ive had have been useless, tempted to go back to nokias.
