After one year of using, I have found the option button and the cancel button is not functioning and instead if we press to lock the key pad, * and # symbols are coming respectively for those buttons.

Although Sony Ericsson J220i is a basic phone, I can recommend it. I'm 34 and I use it for talking and messaging. It has well organized menus, basically it has everything an average user might need. Lack of hi-tech stuff (camera, mp3, bt, ir, voice rec., etc) is an advantage if you ask me. The STN display is strong point of this unit, well balanced and crisp - far better than Nokia's 2310 for example. If you didn’t know, you would think – TFT. Some may not like the idea that you can't see anything on display in standby mode (black screen), unlike Nokia's display, but it saves energy. The battery is great. Good standby time. Keys are little hard and tricky for people with chubby fingers - they feel like PC mouse buttons. Navigation button needs a little time to master, but this solution is better than joystick. There aren't many ring tones, games, pictures, themes installed, but that's why you have GPRS. Only problem is the memory, or lack of it (only 0.5 MB), so chose well what you download. Anyway, if this doesn't bother you, hurry up and get your own J220i, before Sony Ericsson stops producing it.

very durable phone and user friendly for a sony phone which are harder to use. decent screen for the cheap price but meant for simple occasional calling and texting not for multimedia buffs.

I am borrowing this phone off my nana at the moment because my other phone has broken. I am finding it very good at the moment and I reccomend it to anyone that is thinking of buying it as a first phone.

While the J220 might perform well with low use, anyone who talks more than ten minutes per day might want to upgrade to something a bit more...function-rich.
The J220 lacks a 2.5mm headset jack and the loudspeaker is substandard. Holding the phone against your head for more than five minutes will produce a cuddly warm sensation near your ear as you embark on an expenses-paid holiday to Tumorville. Reception is poor-to-average in fringe areas, average-to-average in town.
It's not all bad, though, as the Sony interface is quite elegant, and the handset is well constructed, sporting no annoying creaks or wiggles. You could do worse.

Very good phone. Has all the options that I need (except voice recording). The display is some on the low end but that is to be expected. It is perfect at home and still visable in the sun.
The rigntones are great and you have the option to download even more as well as themes and wallpapers.
The design on the phone is good even though it may feel a bit on the heavy side in the beggining. The menu is typical SE old version menu which I personally love.
The letters, fonts, menu icons etc. are all written with big letters so they are easy to read.
Finally the voice guality is good - better than some more expensive phones and the battery seems to lasts for ages (after 2 days of playing for 10 min, talking 15 minutes, sms-ing etc it is still more than 2/3 full).

I love the design, sound quality is great
and very easy to use. Also like the large
screen. The phone is very elegant in the
all black version. Nice ringtones and the
size is just right.
