You are welcome, and thank you for the information. You are right that VGA is better than QVGA. But as far as Sony 'thriving on this mentality'.....maybe. It is just easy for people like me that does not have the time to work on the compressing of the video. Between family and work, I dont have alot of time for myself, much less working on my videos. I also have a Sony camcorder, and it a test of my will to get the camera to transfer to the PC to DVD. Yes, you can say I am getting a little lazy at my age.
        :-)
But, for people like me quick and easy is better. I do hate to lose the VGA, and I am sure Sony will make it standard on there phones someday. I am glad that you enjoy your phone, and you will for some time to come. With a family I dont have alot to spend, and on Nokia I dont need alot of the extras that they put on there phones.
So, if there is anything else that you can share with me, and others, that we may learn something about, please do so. I enjoy talking to someone that makes good points, and that I can learn from. Thank you.

dear sir dire wolf, Im glad you appreciate my reply...

but VGA will always look better than QVGA whichever way you look at it, as it is 4 times the number of pixels and twice the size

on youtube if ever they will fix the problem you will see that VGA is alot clearer but for now, and for an average user's convenience QVGA seem fit for uploading videos at youtube

VGA resolution on youtube lets you have the option to watch in higher quality...and quality is the factor on why we prefer VGA over QVGA

it's just that sometimes...or should I say, most of the time youtube, for now at least, messess up most of the videos uploaded in VGA resolution by compressing everything and slowing down the framerate(hence choppy, seemingly jumpy and slow video)
but even so...they let you see the video in higher quality (an option will pop out on the lower right of the video if you want to see it in higher quality)

while if you upload your video in QVGA, you wont be able to have the "watch in high quality" option

and you're stuck with that quality no means of achieving a higher quality whatsoever...

I understand that in your opinion, for practicality QVGA is enough, but for people who want more, it would be really great if companies would include VGA resolution (such as what nokia has done on n93-n95-n82 and what S.E. is going to do with xperia) because

if the problem on youtube is fixed, or you know how to downsize the VGA resolution to QVGA (btw if you are able to downsize the VGA video to QVGA you will achieve a very very clear video, clearer than a video which is recorded at a native QVGA resolution, and a downsized VGA resolution to QVGA isnt compressed or in anyway downgraded on youtube btw )or if you upload your videos in other sites which handles high quality videos such as high5, then you will get to see how much better VGA video really is

bottomline is...its nice to have VGA resolution (for watching your videos on T.V. for example) but for practicality (lesser space and if you are already content on the quality of the QVGA video,) then QVGA is adequate...

(perhaps this is the mentality that sony ericsson thrives on)

                    ^_^

carloud, 08 Aug 2008dear direwolf sir, the video posted on youtube about the... moreI will take what you say to be true, but does this not make it harder for that average person? I dont know very much about compressing video's, so would it not make more sense for the average person to go with QVGA then? I mean if you sent a video to a family member, or post it on a blog, or e-mail, or what have you, It looks better in QVGA, and there would be less problems. Like i said the average person may not know what you have told me, and would not be happy with the results. Could it be that Nokia went wrong in making there phone to complicated for the average person to use on the internet? Looks that way, from what you have told me, and it can be seen in the videos on YOU Tube. Me, I like keeping it simple, and the less it is complicated to use and enjoy, the better. Thanks for your input, it was useful.

Direwolf_65, 04 Aug 2008I have to disagree with you on that. Check these links. A ... moredear direwolf sir,

the video posted on youtube about the n95 lags because it is of VGA quality

youtube has issues with regards to videos put on VGA resolution

youtube compresses the video quality and the framerate

but if you upload a QVGA video youtube doesnt affect the framerate only the video quality by just a bit...

I know this because I too have been wondering why on earth do all recently uploaded videos taht are in VGA resolution (n95,6233) tends to have a choppy framerate (aka jumpy) when in fact the original video is very very smooth

I emailed and asked about this on other youtube members and found out that when you upload Videos in VGA resolution youtube compresses the quality greatly and also the framerate...

tested it myself and it really does too

but if you will notice videso uploaded in youtube that are in higher than QVGA resolution are given the options to be watched at "higher quality"

funny though sometimes the vga video that I upload have flawless framerate and sometimes it lags...

before the time that youtube included the option to watch in "high quality" or before their last maintenance I found out that the vga videos that I uploaded arent compressed as much as it is now...and it never affected the default framerate of the video

funny that even though they improved youtube by including options like "watch in higher quality" or "add annotations"

the way they compress high resolution videos are a bit jumpy...

I also found out that if you convert the VGA video to divx...there is a lesser chance that youtube will compress the framerate...

hehe I've uploaded several vids just type in my username and youll see ^_^

Dani, 22 Jun 2008I Agree Nokia is making more Variety in the N-Series Range ... moreu mentioned n95, n95 8gb, n82 and n96. do you realize that they are essentially the same phones? n82 has same camera module as n95(as said by gsmarena). 8gb version just has 8gb added to it(duh!)and n96 has the same specs as n95 except for a bigger screen and no IR. where's the variety?

Dani , 06 Aug 2008What are your other worries about K850i ?Dani,
I was just wondering if it was durable, seeing that I put a phone through alot of use. I have always like the Walkman phones, and had the W810. I have not had a Cybershot. I wanted a trouble free phone, to take pic's of my family, with a better flash than my W810. I took LOADS of pic's with the W810, dropped it down concrete steps and floors, still works like the day I bought it. Love the W810, Just want a phone that is reliable as it was, just 'upgraded'. Thought about the c702, but not impressed with the flash. Thought about the W902, not sure if I can afford it. The C902, maybe it is coming down in price, and I think it has the new led flash on it. I am not in a rush to buy RIGHT now, I just like to know if I am making a good choice, from someone that has used the phone.

So i have used the phone for about a week now..i use ATNT full package unlimited and i have had no problems with service or loss of calls at all..i Live in washington state..

i dont use email much but from what i have used it compared to a blackberry for example this thing is average

Getting a handle of the key buttons is not a big deal but if you NEED to speed type dont expect that to come easily..
my hands are nimble so it was not a prob

overall for what the phone is i would give it a 9...its not perfect but very few flaws and esaily updated and user friendly.

i know i took my time looking up what phone to buy so if i can help you make a more informed decision please let me know

Thanks pal. One more prob, in the pics of the mobile found in diff websites & internet, the 4 way joystick key gets to be illuminated as the prescribed one in the kit box. I bought k850i mobile(velvet blue) by this week, but those keys dont get to lighted as blue, jus a white color glows when keypads gets lighted up. But with out lights its of blue color in natural lite. Do all mobiles seems to the same as mine or mine alone seems to be like that. If so then wats the reason of specification of these colors. I bought this mobile by the impression on these lights in keypad & on the sides but now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i feel so much disappointed. More over my mobiles lifetime is 2 nd Half hr before i bought. I forgot to check it in the showroom itself. By the next day only i noticed it. nd if i get a call, the life timer gets increamented from the time of the incoming ringing starting & not from the time of call attending. Do any of yr mobiles also seems to be like that, becs i enquired in service center yesterday n they said tat all mobiles hav this of increamenting in its life time from the time of ring. Pls check this in yr mobile n say. If its present then no prob, but if its in my mobile alone means then i have to go for service center by today itself to rectify this prob. nd very much dissappionted with the battery too till now as no specification matches with our real time battery usage as specified in the websites. Many false info!!!!!!! How about yr battery cover opening below, does it closes perfectly. becs in my mobile it not gets closed perfectly. If so wat shd i do to rectify it........
