This phone is a joke.... auto shut down when in use during talktime in about 30mins...hang & keep on restarting on itsself.overall a big disapointment sold off in just 1 mths time..cant stand using a phone which hang & shut down 5 - 6 times a day...even when i had already updated it with the latest firmware.common problem with this model

go buy which suits your needs. if you want better video quality then get an n95 or n82.

People should just go with the Phone, now with the brand that it belongs... keep that in mind.
Not all phones from a leading company keep being the best... sometimes they are just overcomed by another phone from a different company...

been using the nokia n95 for the last 3 month n iv just took delivery of the k850 3 days ago it is a far betterfone than any other nokia iv used, easier to work camera is much better, iv always prefered sony erricsons even tho they dont have as many features as the new nokias butin my mind is a much better fone n you dont have to charge the battery every 5 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please stop comparing nokia and SE. reading all this child fight make me sick. Grow up guys/gals ! These two brands caters for different segments of consumers, If you like nokia, by all means buy one. If you're SE lover, just stick with your brand!!!

guys, nokia doesb't really "make" their novelty OS... SYMBIAN made the OS for nokia's smartphones... nokia just got a contract with them to make the OS.. on the other hand, all the features and hardware in an SE phone comes only from Sony Electronics and the European Wireless company, Ericsson.. Nokia relies on otehr brands like Carl Zeiss, symbian and "I think" they don't even make their own screens.. I thinks they came from other companies... But then again, nokia shows their intrapersonal side...

I understand your using SE's acronym as a put-down, but why Stupid Elephant? I don't know of any elepant related products that SE have done and I've heard, from a zoologist, that elephants are quite clever!
So quit bad mouthing elephants, I'm sure they would probably have a pop at you if they read some of the things you've been saying about them!

I'm afraid Ed's right about the K880i being a hoax! Just reading the blurry specs alone would give you some idea of what people want from their mobiles and unfortunately, its fiction...for the time being at least! ;)
Super-VGA secondary camera sounds a bit far fetched, though I would've liked to have seen the K850i with a Goforce 5500 Graphics chip, those things really kick arse! Just look at what the 4800 did to the W900i! :)

Are you able to put your appointments on the front screen? I find it to be a useful function in Symbion phones.
What does the lack of WiFi mean? I don't think i'd use VOIP just yet, and i'd prefer to surf the net on a proper computer.
Also, the standard of GPS in phones I think isn't good enough for me to swing towards paying more for the N95 and associated phones.

Lot of have been said about Sony Ericsson and Nokia. There are lot of mobile companies but as we can see that fight has been remained between two key players SonyEricsson and Nokia. Though fan boys of Motorola, LG and Samsung etc. sometimes comes between to defend their brands but they get ignored. Even in real life we can see that Sony Ericsson and Nokia try to outshine each other in terms of design, features and sometimes even in Boxing.
Personally i love SONY products. That's true that Nokia has launched N82 in fly to combat K850i phone. That's also true that approximately at the same price N82 can give GPS, WiFi UPnP and VGA Video. These features are becoming more important.
Clearly N82 has more features at same price but still i will never buy Nokia. Being a Sony Ericsson Loyal Fan i will wait for the next lineup of Sony Ericsson.
There is no emergency at all that i should bother and run fast to grab Nokia N82 or something else just because today this model has much better features. As i said earlier there is no emergency. Mu BP is normal and i can wait for Next lineup. Now Nokia fan-boys might say that Sony Ericsson will take months or years whatever but i don't not give attention to these people. Whatever they write i don't care. One thing i know that Sony Ericsson might take time but it will come with Best quality.
Let's just take an example. There are 2 suitcases. One suitcase comes early. When you open it you see every kind of clothings. Some are new but the arrangement of clothes is not well and looks like they have been pushed inside to fill the space.
Now another suitcase comes. When you open it you see that everything is well placed. It has got all thing that the previous suitcase had but the important thing is that the clothing is of superior quality plus it comes with some novelties. That's what Sony Ericsson is.
I regret to say that Nokia fan boys wouldnever understand extra features. Just for example take Radio...Nokia Radio features it's own technology "Visual Radio" while Sony Ericsson not only features RDS ( In smartphones it also features Traffic announcement etc. ti name a few )but also Track ID. Now to know which song is playing; you don't have to keep your GPRS on to keep Visual radio Running as in Nokia but here you just click Track ID button it will come with all the required information. The novelty doesnt end here. Suppose you go to your friend's house. He is playing a song on his Music Station and you don't know about that song, now what would you do ? Here in this situation ? Take your phone near the speaker , start Track Id and here comes the all desired information.
Nokia fanboys can never know what does it mean to have Best Pic, Image/ Video stablizer etc. just to name a few.They even can't understand what does Cuber-shot and Walkman means. Still no phone i repeat no phone is able to re-create the magic of Cyber-shot and Walkman Brands. Lot of companies tried to copied it. Xpress music can't be Walkman. No nokia phone can shoot the real pictures without any manipulation. See their Camera Menu and compare it with the the camera Menu of Cyber-shot. Cyber-shot's Camera menu is well built. well placed and very sophisticated just like a real standalone Digicam.
Here i would also like to include that there are many Nokia fan boys who just can buy a simple phone but treat themselves as they are James Bond with high-tech gadgets. They want that their phone should have HDTV recording, 20MPx camera blah b;ah blah...they are the people who can't make any good things but still criticize Google for introducing My Location feature. They want advanced features.
there was a time when ony Ericsson didn't came to existence. Nobody can think that phones can also be used as advanced Music players and Digicams. That was the time when Mobile Phone and Nokia were synonyms. But now things have changed.
I am confident that although late but whenver Sony Ericsson would come with GPS and Advanced wi-fi and Video Recording; it will be the Best in it's class. Sony Ericsson is already working with Google. Google Search, Picture and Video blogging to Google's Blogspot site is just an example. Netfront browser that Sony Ericsson uses is the Award Winning browser.
I can wait but always NO TO NOKIA.

It is absolutely ridiculous for SE not to put any good OS on this phone, considering it is one of their 3 top-of-the-line phones! K850i is a phone that has an OS comparable to Nokia 5310 XpressMusic. BTW, 5310 has better sound reproduction than Walkman 3.0 phones, thanks to its dedicated music chip. It has been proven in mobile reviews in the web. Samsung i450 is the BEST music phone to be released! No wonder, since Samsung makes sound processors for iPod. They can easily enhance these sound processors for their own products. So good luck with SE

I'm not a Nokia fanboy. I bought a Nokia N95 primarily because it has all the features that I need and a lot more. The pic quality isn't all that bad either. Personally, I prefer it over K850i because even if the pic looks unnatural, the colors are more vibrant and pleasing to the eyes. It makes the pictures look good! So what's wrong with that?? Plus, the video quality is excellent! SE has a long way to go to improve in the video recording department.
No offense to the SE fanboys, but I think SE should come up with an "all-in-one" device. Or they'll remain to be in 4th place, behind Samsung, Motorola and Nokia

We are in the 21st century! It's time that we think outside of the box, and Symbian/Windows Mobile is the first step towards more functionality. Phones are becoming a household utility, and it won't hurt to have MORE features in a phone than nothing. I don't know, but by now I think you should learn how to use Symbian.

I've the K850 Luminous Green ver. The top camera controls, the camera on/off and shutter button and the circle around the lens glow blue. As well, I think I have an earlier model as the light around the lens does not exactly slowly encircle around it like in the demo vids, but it does seem to give it somewhat of that effect by fading in, then out.
Any comments on that?

This phone does not include the Walkman functions like MusicShaker control and the SenseMe music mood playlister, but this phone does include the Walkman player 3.0. The only thing is that it is NOT branded as Walkman.

Do you know that alot of people here in Toronto have already succumb that the Samsung or Sony Ericsson brand of 5Mp phones are better then the Nokia crap?
The Nokia phones are slow, they lag and they're ugly. The steel design of the N82 cannot have heads turn to look a second time. With this phone you can have that, and with the G800 you can have that. With the N95, you'd only have a double-take because people would look to see if you were holding a brick to your head or not.
You keep talking about these, so called, better features. In terms of camera quality, get your fat fingers out of the way of the sensor, because it's really sensitive if you're any closer then two CM infront of it or around/beside it! Then maybe you'll end up with a good picture, but I guess that's why you have Nokia. Because their sensors are there for show, and do nothing. They waste your money, and give you an unrealistic picture. Very poor quality.
If fake pictures make you happy, go back to the Nokia thread and tell people who pass by there, looking at the Nokia phones to buy them, not here in the Sony Ericsson forum, because people came here to look at Sony Ericsson quality phones, not phones that make fake pictures and look ugly/plasticky.

The lense cover is under the clear casing of the K850 which means that it doesn't get dust in it.
When you press the dedicated camera activation button, the cover automatically opens and (depending on the colour of your phone) you either get a flash of blue or green light around the lens for added effect (which looks pretty cool).

blows the n95 8gb straight out the water, ive compared a photo set at the highest resolution taken on my k850 n compared it to 1 taken on my mates n95 8gb taken at the highest resolution n when both viewed on a computer/laptop the k850 photo wins by quite a margin, my mate even agreed , he's dissapointed as he is a photography fanatic and stuck with his n95 8gb as he is commited to a contract n can't change as he as had it for 3 weeks, gr8 shame!
