The MemTotal is the amount of user available RAM. On the galaxy y specifications page that is the number (user available) of RAM mentioned by gsmarena.
System tools such as benchmark apps only read the user available memory:
- Live with Walkman: 335s MB (from 512 MB of total RAM)
- Xperia X8: 177s MB (256 MB total)
- Xperia S: 691s MB (1024 MB)
- Galaxy y 290s MB (384 MB)

I tried to update LWW bt,it was not sucsessful,after that 5 step , it didnt carry on to other steps,

My... moreno, S.E are not cheating customers, 512mb was the ram the reason why it shows 290-315 was because the os and system was using it, sony customizes it that it shows how many memory was still left, the samsung was only showing the original ram, but in doesn't show how many memory that was still available, because maybe of the lower version of android os, not sure about it though,,,

Original 290 ram and yet when I look ... moreOk, here's how it goes, everytime that android releases new version the manufacturers, Sony Ericsson for example customize it, same does samsung, there are added programs that was been installed to the stock android os, in this case the galaxy y has a lower version of abdroid os, froyo, which has less programs installed in the original android by samsung, in this case sony put gingerbread in live, which is newer version of android, plus the live has more hardware to be controlled by the os, walkman player, 1ghz cpu adreno 205 gpu, higher than galaxy y, hd recording and etc,, thats the reason why the system using more ram memory than the os in glalxy y, remember the windows and XP and the windows Vista and seven? the newer version requires more resources and uses more ram because of the newer features installed in it.. :)

Awesome phone..but poor batteries...any1 tried duplicate batteries with high capacity chinese batteries(saw some add's in ebay.com)..any 1 having any ideas???
