A lot of people complain about the txt files not being able to open more than 80kb I had the same problem on my M600i I couldn't read any type of book unless I split the files.
The problem is not the phone but the program.
Download another txt file program the with the phone slows down typing after 1 page. Get "word to go" for bigger docs with pictures.

Oh yes, another thing I remembered. It'd be nice to have a facility of locking the keyboard and touchscreen from anywhere, like you could do on a K800i using the power button. Now if I am in the middle of writing a message and need to attend to something else, I need to save the message, come back to the main screen and lock the phone. This is a bit of a pain; It'd have been great if I could lock it on the message screen itself. Guess this is a software-only issue, and can be solved with an upgrade later.

I liked the design and specs on this phone. But like many others here on this forum, I too was worried about the strange type of QWERTY keyboard this has. I did go ahead and get the phone, so thought I'd share my opinion on it.

Yes, a standard phone keypad (like on K800i) saves space, but needs multitap or the help of predictive text (which also involves more key presses to select the right word sometimes).

A full QWERTY keyboard like on Blackberry 8800 would obviously be the fastest to use. But it makes the phone wider.

The new style keyboard seen on P1i is the best of both worlds. It's saving space and at the same time giving u a very fast way of writing. Yes, as some say, it does take time to get used to, especially after years of using a 9-key keypad. But honestly, after about 2 weeks of having the P1i, I am totally comfortable with its keyboard.

So there you go. If you like everything else about this phone, go for it. You'll get used to the keyboard quite easily. And anyway, u have onscreen keyboard and handwriting recognition too.

As I said, I like the specs and the general look and feel of this phone. Only things I'd like to see on it's successor is a trackball like on Blackberry 8100 Pearl instead of the jogdial, and a proper xenon flash. (Prev phone was K800i, took great pics in dark).

                            @ Faryal shakeel

been looking around the web, & here's what i got...

"The main fix is that the phone no longer crashes when you write long notes or emails or even view long emails (which really bothered me). As this update seems to have no negative sideeffects, I would recommend to install it."
                            - the guy that posted it in the my-symbian.com forums was talking about the new firmware, e.g phone R9H004 & cda R6E29

to the guy who asked about that green tint in the pictures taken with P1:

Yes it does have a green tint & no, it isn't addressed in the latest firmware & yes, we are praying that sony ericsson answers our pleas in the next firmware update. =)

P.S. You may notice that the P1 displays the color green quite intensely... just look at the opening logo.. (i may be wrong tho...lol)

                                  @ Faryal Shakeel

Tested what u posted today & its seems u are right. I can't open a txt file larger than 80kb but strangely, d phone can open word & excel files larger than 150kb just fine. must be a bug or problem in their software. As you know, the P1 HAS the same software as d problematic p990 so probably all the problems present in the p990 are still there in p1.

the "unlimited" fields or contact numbers do have a limit, & its seems that once you get more than 15 fields occupied, a problem pops out. Once again, another bug.

Hopefully, all these problems will be addressed in the next firmware update (which i have no news of ever happening in the very near future)

if you want to, try searching the net via google & you'll find some forums about the bugs & problems of the P1 as well as some useful stuff.

Just a thought... if you really need to read that txt file, why not convert it into a word document? & why not try to separate that contact of yours with 20 numbers into 2 contacts with 10 numbers each. =)

Anyway, im searching the net for the changes made in the "latest" firmware for the P1. will get back to you whatever i find

                                  peace man.
