I was waiting for the P990i to be released, however I'm so dissapointed with it. It's been back to the shop so many times, this is the third replacement and it's still not working properly. It keeps crashing and everytime I switch the phone off I loose all my set ringtones????? The P900 was great I never had a problem with it. Also wiht the P990i, I find I still have trouble finding the applications, you have to go through so many steps to get where you want to be. I think I may sell it and get something eles..........so frustrating.

Useless Half Qwerty keypad, basically a P990i with better camera, even uglier than P990i!

I think this is the best looking and feature rich phone Ericsson has ever released! From the GIANT colour TFT screen, to 3G and Wi-Fi support, 3.2MP camera all the way to the old school Inrared (which 65% of newly released phones don't support anymore), to the beautiful design and very nicely arranged black on silver colour. It's like all of thier earlier PDA models and the 'W' series all rolled into one, with almost the sleekness of the new 'W880i'. Well done Ericsson, I will be a proud owner of this latest released as soon as I can get my hands on it.

as far as i have observed, P990's sofware is now reliable and stable, no more crashes, lags and other major form of bugs, but one bug remains unfixed; the alarm volume other than that, P990 is now groundbreaking being a smartphone.

This P1i is not a replacement for the P990i.
It looks to me as an improved version of the M600i.
I think Sony Ericsson will announce a replacement for P990i sometime around September.

I had been a SE fan from their P800 onwards uptill p910. I remember waiting for so long for P990 and I almost got used to seeing the coming soon statement in this site. When it finally arrived after a delay of about 9 months, the phone was nothing close to what most of us expected. I switched 3 P990's and all of them had the same problems. The SE company wasnt very supportive either. Occasionally when I read the user comments about that brick, I still see people are facing problems. Now here comes the P1. Besides The memory size and the 3MP camera, I dont see anyother feature better than the P990. All I can advice people here is dont go for the first releases, because they will definately have problems and you better not count on SE support.

I have a question if anyone can answer it. Since this phone has UMTS, won't it be able to substitute the 850Mhz frequency in the U.S.? If it can, then you don't need 850mhz. That is when the U.S. will eventually have 3g.
